Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare glaucoma therapy escalation (GTE), graft survival, vision, and glaucoma following penetrating keratoplasty (PK group) and Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK group) to treat pseudophakic bullous keratopathy (PBK).

Methods: This cohort included cases of PBK managed with PK from 2009 to 2014. We compared the incidences and determinants of GTE, graft survival, and visual disability. < 0.05 was statistically significant.

Results: There were 58 eyes in the PK group and 117 eyes in the DSAEK group. The incidence of GTE in the PK and DSAEK groups at the last follow-up was 34.2% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 19.5-48.9) and 46.6% (95% CI: 27.7-65.4), respectively. The risk of GTE was similar between the groups (relative risk [RR] = 1.36 [95% CI: 0.94-1.98], = 0.12). GTE was significantly associated with graft survival in the PK group (RR = 3.25 [95% CI: 1.5-7.0], < 0.001) and the DSAEK group (RR = 3.77 [95% CI: 2.6-5.6], < 0.001). Glaucoma ( = 0.001) and previous keratoplasty ( < 0.001) were significant predictors for GTE. At the final follow-up visit, severe visual disability was not significantly different between the groups (RR = 0.9 [95% CI: 0.3-2.9], = 0.88). There was a statistically significant improvement in vision after DSAEK ( < 0.001) but not after PK ( = 0.67).

Conclusion: GTE was similar in eyes with PBK managed by PK or DSAEK. Glaucoma and previous keratoplasty were predictors of GTE post-keratoplasty. DSAEK gave better visual outcomes than PK for managing PBK.

Skin flap transplantation is a conventional wound repair method in plastic and reconstructive surgery, but infection and ischemia are common complications. Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy has shown promise for various medical problems, including wound repair processes, due to its capability to accelerate angiogenesis and relieve inflammation. This study investigated the effect of red and blue light on the survival of random skin flaps in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)-infected Sprague Dawley (SD) rats.

Purpose: This study compared the outcomes of haploidentical-related donor (HRD) and umbilical cord blood (UCB) hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in pediatric patients with hematologic malignancies.

Methods: Data on patients who underwent HRD HSCT with post-transplant cyclophosphamide (n = 41) and UCB HSCT (n = 24) after targeted busulfan-based myeloablative conditioning with intensive pharmacokinetic monitoring between 2009 and 2018 were retrospectively analyzed.

Results: The median follow-up durations in the HRD and UCB groups were 7.

Post-transplant cyclophosphamide (PTCy) and anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG) are mainstay prophylactic treatment options for graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), widely used in haploidentical stem cell transplantation. Due to a lack of prospective studies, a number of retrospective comparisons have yielded different conclusions as to which prophylaxis regimen is superior. We performed a meta-analysis of these studies to get more informed and comprehensive decisions from clinicians.

Certain molecules, such as GLP-1 agonists and endothelin antagonists, possess nephroprotective properties. When treating IgA nephropathy, endothelin antagonists and sibeprenlimab have shown effectiveness in slowing the progression of chronic kidney isease. Additionally, the infusion of amino acids can reduce the incidence of mild acute kidney injury following cardiac surgery.

Background And Aim: Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a key treatment for coronary artery disease, but accurately predicting patient survival after the procedure presents significant challenges. This study aimed to systematically review articles using machine learning techniques to predict patient survival rates and identify factors affecting these rates after CABG surgery.

Methods: From January 1, 2015, to January 20, 2024, a comprehensive literature search was conducted across PubMed, Scopus, IEEE Xplore, and Web of Science.
