AI Article Synopsis

  • EPR spectroscopy was used to investigate how the structure of copper-containing catalysts influences their performance, focusing on Al-Zr-Ce mixed oxides.
  • The state of copper sites varies based on the phase composition of the support and the temperature used during synthesis.
  • Additionally, the reaction medium present during catalysis also affects the characteristics of the copper sites.

Article Abstract

Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy was applied to study structure-performance relationships for copper-containing catalysts based on Al-Zr-Ce mixed oxides with various oxide support synthesis temperature. In situ EPR showed that the state of Cu sites depends on the phase composition of the support, temperature, as well as the presence of the reaction medium during catalysis.

Ni(II)-hydrazineylpyridine (Ni(II)-PyH)-catalyzed regioselective synthesis of α-benzyl substituted β-hydroxy ketones from α,β-unsaturated ketones and alcohols is reported a Fenton free-radical reaction. This protocol enables facile access to desired products in good to excellent yields in 12 h using toluene solvent at room temperature to 100 °C. The structural analysis of the products was confirmed by H, C-NMR, GC-MS, and HRMS data.

Hypohalites are commonly generated in biological systems, mostly with functions related to defense and immune system response. These hypohalites can bind to metal centers and are known for their strong oxidizing properties that play crucial roles in various biological processes. Herein, we report the synthesis, characterization and reactivity of novel biomimetic Ru(III)-hypochlorite complexes and focus the work on the electronic effects associated with the incorporation of methyl groups in a pentadentate ligand framework in an asymmetric fashion.

Members of the KCNE family are accessory subunits that modulate voltage-gated potassium channels. One member, KCNE4, has been shown to inhibit the potassium ion current in these channels. However, little is known about the structure, dynamics, and mode of inhibition of KCNE4, likely due to challenges in overexpressing and purifying the protein.
