Oral Lactoferrin-Responsive Formulation Anchoring around Inflammatory Bowel Region for IBD Therapy.

Adv Healthc Mater

December 2024

Department of Oncology, The Second Affiliated Hospital, Medical School of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, Shaanxi, 710061, China.

Oral formulation is the ideal treatment method for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) therapy, but the mucosal damage and diarrhea symptoms impede the drug retention around the inflammatory region, severely limiting IBD therapeutic efficacy. To address this, an oral astaxanthin (Ast) precise delivery formulation is developed with the selective Ast anchoring around the inflammatory region by the novel lactoferrin (LF)-responsive flocculation. This formulation also heightens the apparent solubility of Ast with the minimized edible safety risks for the edible raw materials.

Cholesterol (Cho) is commonly used to stabilize nanoliposomes; however, there is controversy on the relationship between Cho and health. In this study, we developed a novel multifunctional nanoliposome utilizing structurally similar sitogluside (SG) and dioscin (Dio) instead of Cho to anchor the phospholipid bilayer and synergistically modulate the membrane properties of the nanoliposome (DPPC or DOPC). The storage and gastrointestinal tract stability experiment demonstrated that the changes of physical and chemical properties, including the significantly reduced size and Dio retention rate of nanoliposomes synergistically modulated by SG and Dio compared to those of SG alone, regulated nanoliposomes.

Phytate in plants (inositol phosphates, InsPs) affects mineral bioavailability. However, methods for their quantification may lead to variable results, and some are nonspecific (spectrophotometric techniques). In this study, ion-pair high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was coupled with post-column derivatization to allow fluorescence detection (FLD, λ324/λ364 nm) of InsPs.

A method for the rapid detection of heavy metal mercury ions based on a novel mercury chelator N,N'-bis (2-mercaptoethyl) isophthalamide.

Food Chem

December 2024

Development Center of Plant Germplasm Resources, College of Life Sciences, Shanghai Normal University, Shanghai 200234, China. Electronic address:

Mercury has caused severe harm to the environment and human health. A novel biological screen method was developed and identified a Hg chelator BDTH2. Both biological and chemical methods demonstrated BDTH2 displayed a high specificity and strong binding capacity for Hg.

December 2024

School of Environment and Ecology, Jiangnan University, Wuxi 214122, China; Jiangsu Cooperative Innovation Center of Water Treatment Technology and Materials, Suzhou University of Science and Technology, Suzhou 215009, China. Electronic address:

Rare earth elements (REEs) are extensively utilized in industry, agriculture, advanced materials and other fields, leading to their dispersion in water bodies as emerging contaminants. Meanwhile, the coexistence of REEs and heavy metals (HMs) has become a novel form of water contamination (REE-HM co-contamination), though scientists have limited understanding of its hazards. Here, Chlorococcum sp.
