Fifteen-year experience of direct bridge with venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation to heart transplantation.

JTCVS Open

December 2024

Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Department, Sorbonne Université, APHP, Groupe Hospitalier Pitié-Salpétrière, Institute of Cardiology, Paris, France.

Objective: The study objective was to evaluate outcomes of patients directly bridged with venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation to heart transplantation.

Methods: A single-center retrospective study was performed on 1152 adult patients undergoing isolated cardiac transplantation between January 2007 and December 2021. Among these, patients bridged with an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation to transplantation (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation group, n = 317) were compared with standard cohorts of patients (no extracorporeal membrane oxygenation group, n = 835).

Importance: Current evidence of the association between prenatal exposure to glucocorticoids and long-term mental disorders is scarce and has limitations.

Objective: To investigate the association between prenatal exposure to systemic glucocorticoids and mental disorders in offspring at the age of 15 years, comparing exposed vs unexposed offspring born to mothers with the same underlying disease (risk of preterm delivery and autoimmune or inflammatory disorders).

Design, Setting, And Participants: This nationwide population-based cohort study used data from registries in Denmark with follow-up until December 31, 2018.

This study reports on the description of children's distinct trajectories of intrusive grief, baseline predictors of grief trajectories, and the association of grief trajectories with mental health, substantive abuse and disordered grief six and fifteen years following baseline assessment. The study uses data on 244 parentally-bereaved children ages 8-16 at baseline. Four distinct trajectories were identified using Growth Mixture Modeling over four waves of assessment across 6 years.

Purpose: Doxorubicin, bleomycin, vinblastine, dacarbazine (ABVD) chemotherapy is the current standard treatment for early-stage Hodgkins lymphoma (HL). The use of consolidative radiation therapy (RT) in addition to chemotherapy may lead to better survival rates but is controversial because of concerns about long-term toxicity. The aim of this study is to compare outcomes of patients receiving ABVD chemotherapy alone (CTX alone) versus ABVD with consolidative RT (CMT).
