Complications associated with cardiac implantable electric devices (CIED) are manifold. They include lead dislocation, twiddler's syndrome, device malfunction, haematoma formation and infection. Infections can be divided into acute, subacute and late infections. Both the time of onset and the route of infection play a crucial role. The consequences of a CIED infection are devastating. The most modern treatment methods include the removal of all implanted implants. If complete removal is not followed in the event of infection, there is a high rate of infection recurrence. Open thoracic surgery to remove infected CIED hardware has been replaced by percutaneous lead extraction procedures. Lead extraction requires specialised equipment and expertise and may not be readily available or feasible for some patients. Each extraction procedure is associated with a small risk of potentially fatal complications (e.g. cardiac avulsion, vascular avulsion, haemothorax and cardiac tamponade). For these reasons, the performance of such procedures should be limited to centres with adequate equipment and experience. Successful salvage of CIED systems with in situ sterilisation of contaminated hardware has been reported. In our case, we report the successful salvage of an exposed generator in a frail patient treated more than 5 years after the last generator replacement.

Objective: A 26-year-old woman came for orthodontic treatment to improve her profile with protrusive lips. Diagnosed as bimaxillary protrusion, extraction followed by anterior retraction was indispensable for the case. However, her left upper lateral incisor was absent, the left upper canine had moved mesially and replaced the adjacent incisor, and the original canine location was restored with a long implant, which was in good condition.

Multi-targeted drug therapy has received substantial attention for the treatment of diseases of multi-factorial origin, including neurodegenerative and autoimmune diseases. It seems reasonable to argue that the complex pathology of neurodegenerative diseases (ND) cannot be reduced to a single target to modulate a broad range of cellular signaling, associated pathologies, and symptoms. It is this idea that has brought the attention of the scientific world towards phytochemicals and traditional drugs that are notoriously multi-targeted.

Relation extraction independently verifies all entity pairs in a sentence to identify predefined relationships between named entities. Because these entity pairs share the same contextual features of a sentence, they lead to a complicated semantic structure. To distinguish semantic expressions between relation instances, manually designed rules or elaborate deep architectures are usually applied to learn task-relevant representations.

Background: Acute pharyngitis (AP) is a common condition marked by inflammation of the oropharynx, which can lead to severe throat swelling, breathing difficulties, and even suffocation, significantly impacting quality of life. Despite the beneficial anti-inflammatory activity of Glycyrrhizae Radix Et Rhizoma (GRER) and Isoliquiritigenin (ISL), their pharmacological mechanisms against AP remain unclear.
Purpose: This study explores the mechanisms by which GRER treats AP, utilizing both transcriptomics and metabolomics approaches.

Background: Despite the lack of clinically validated strategies for treating spinal cord injury (SCI), combining therapeutic strategies with rehabilitation is believed to promote recovery of motor function; however, current research findings are inconsistent.
Objectives: To explore whether combination therapy involving therapy and rehabilitative training (CIRT) has a synergistic effect on motor function recovery in animal models of SCI.
Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies identified in a keyword search of 6 databases and extracted open-field motor scores from the Basso Mouse Scale (BMS) and the Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan Locomotor Rating Scale (BBB) for meta-analysis using a weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95 % CI.
