Published: July 2023

In the information explosion society, information security is highly demanded in the practical application, which raised a surge of interest in designing secure and reliable information transmission channels based on the inherent properties of emerging devices. Here, an innovative strategy to achieve the data encryption and reading during the data confidential transmission based on VO device is proposed. Owing to the specific insulator-to-metal transition property of VO , the phase transitions between the insulator and metallic states are modulated by the combination of electric field, temperature, and light radiation. These external stimulus-induced phase diagram is directly associated with the defined VO device, which are applicable for control the "0" or "1" electrical logic state for the information encryption. A prototype device is fabricated on an epitaxial VO film, which displayed a unique data encryption function with excellent stability. The current study not only demonstrated a multiphysical field-modulated VO device for information encryption, but also supplied some clues for functional devices applications in other correlated oxide materials.

Xen 63 versus Preserflo MicroShunt implant in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Ophthalmology and ORL, Faculty of Medicine, Clinico San Carlos Hospital, Complutense University, Clinico San Carlos Hospital Health Research Institute (IdISSC), Calle del Prof Martín Lagos, s/n,, Madrid, 28040, Spain.

This study compared the efficacy safety profiles of the Xen 63 and Preserflo MicroShunt devices, both standalone, in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). It is a retrospective and single-center study conducted on consecutive on patients with medically uncontrolled POAG who underwent either a standalone Xen 63 or a standalone Preserflo and had a 12-month follow-up visit. The primary outcome was the mean IOP at month-12.

On-Chip Metamaterial-Enhanced Mid-Infrared Photodetectors with Built-In Encryption Features.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

January 2025

College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, No. 1, Sub-Lane Xiangshan, Xihu District, Hangzhou, 310024, China.

The integration of mid-infrared (MIR) photodetectors with built-in encryption capabilities holds immense promise for advancing secure communications in decentralized networks and compact sensing systems. However, achieving high sensitivity, self-powered operation, and reliable performance at room temperature within a miniaturized form factor remains a formidable challenge, largely due to constraints in MIR light absorption and the intricacies of embedding encryption at the device level. Here, a novel on-chip metamaterial-enhanced, 2D tantalum nickel selenide (Ta₂NiSe₅)-based photodetector, meticulously designed with a custom-engineered plasmonic resonance microstructure to achieve self-powered photodetection in the nanoampere range is unveiled.

Using reduced sericin as a green resist for precise pattern fabrication via water-based lithography.

J Colloid Interface Sci

Faculty of Printing, Packaging Engineering and Digital Media Technology, Xi'an, University of Technology, Xi'an 710048, PR China.

The use of toxic resists and complex procedures has impeded the resolution and quality of micro/nanofabrication on virtually arbitrary substrates via photolithography. To fabricate a precise and high-resolution pattern, a sericin nanofilm-based coating was developed by reducing disulfide bonds and subsequently assembling sericin protein. Upon exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, intermolecular amide bonds in sericin are cleaved through the action of a reducing agent, allowing the reduced sericin (rSer) coating to exhibit the functional ability to generate diverse geometric micro/nanopatterns through photomask-governed photolithography.

Security is one of the increasingly significant issues given advancements in technology that harness data from multiple devices such as the internet of medical devices. While protecting data from unauthorized user access, several techniques are used including fingerprints, passwords, and others. One of the techniques that has attracted much attention is the use of human features, which has proven to be most effective because of the difficulties in impersonating human-related features.
