Background: The Box-Behnken design of experiments (BBD) is a statistical modelling technique that allows the determination of the significant factors in developing nanoparticles (NPs) using a limited number of runs. It also allows the prediction of the best levels of variables to obtain the desired characteristics (size, charge, and encapsulation efficiency) of the NPs. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of the independent variables (amount of polymer and drug, and surfactant concentration) and their interaction on the characteristics of the irinotecan hydrochloride (IRH)-loaded polycaprolactone (PCL) NPs and to determine the most optimum conditions for producing the desired NPs.
Methods: The development of the NPs was carried out by a double emulsion solvent evaporation technique with yield enhancement. The NPs data were fitted in Minitab software to obtain the best fit model.
Results: By using BBD, the most optimum conditions for producing the smallest size, highest magnitude of charge, and highest EE% of PCL NPs were predicted to be achieved by using 61.02 mg PCL, 9 mg IRH, and 4.82% PVA, which would yield 203.01 nm, -15.81 mV, and 82.35% EE.
Conclusion: The analysis by BBD highlighted that the model was a good fit to the data, confirming the suitability of the design of the experiments.

Objectives: Maxillary transverse deficiency is a common malocclusion frequently observed in orthodontic clinics. Miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) not only produces greater skeletal expansion but also offers advantages such as simple miniscrew implantation without flap elevation, enhanced patient comfort, and an expanded age range and indications for palatal expansion. However, the fixed connection between the expander and the miniscrews makes the expander difficult to remove, significantly hindering its clinical application.

Caseinolytic protease P (ClpP) protein is essential for prokaryotic and eukaryotic protein homeostasis, and has emerged as a promising bactericidal target for controlling bacterial infection and evading the emergent of drug-resistance risk. As the unique bactericidal mechanism, ClpP loses its substrate specificity and undergoes uncontrolled protein hydrolysis in the presence of an activator, leading to causing bacterial death. To further expand the chemotype of ClpP activator, a series of ONC212 derivatives were synthesized using a ring expansion strategy.

Three novel D-A-D-structured emitters derived from 9, 10-dithienylanthracene derivatives (DTAs) were synthesized and characterized. These DTAs consist of substituted 9-phenyl-9H-carbazole (BPCB-DTA), triphenylamine (BTPA-DTA) and N, N-dimethylaniline (BDMA-DTA) as donor units, with the phenylacetonitrile group serving as the acceptor. The impact of steric hindrance and electronic effect of the substituents on the optical properties has been thoroughly discussed.

Distributed machine learning in mobile adhoc networks faces significant challenges due to the limited computational resources of devices, non-IID data distribution, and dynamic network topology. Existing approaches often rely on centralized coordination and stable network conditions, which may not be feasible in practice. To address these issues, we propose an adaptive distributed multi-task learning framework called ADAMT for efficient image recognition in resource-constrained mobile ad hoc networks.
