Aromatic plants are reported to display pharmacological properties, including anti-aging. This work aims to disclose the anti-aging effect of the essential oil (EO) of (L.) Cav., an aromatic and medicinal plant widely used as a spice, as well as of the hydrodistillation residual water (HRW), a discarded by-product of EO hydrodistillation. The phytochemical characterization of EO and HRW was assessed by GC-MS and HPLC-PDA-ESI-MS, respectively. The DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP assays were used to disclose the antioxidant properties. The anti-inflammatory potential was evaluated using lipopolysaccharide-stimulated macrophages by assessing NO production, iNOS, and pro-IL-1β protein levels. Cell migration was evaluated using the scratch wound assay, and the etoposide-induced senescence was used to assess the modulation of senescence. The EO is mainly characterized by carvacrol, while the HRW is predominantly characterized by rosmarinic acid. The HRW exerts a stronger antioxidant effect in the DPPH and FRAP assays, whereas the EO was the most active sample in the ABTS assay. Both extracts reduce NO, iNOS, and pro-IL-1β. The EO has no effect on cell migration and presents anti-senescence effects. In opposition, HRW reduces cell migration and induces cellular senescence. Overall, our study highlights interesting pharmacological properties for both extracts, EO being of interest as an anti-aging ingredient and HRW relevant in cancer therapy.

Amino-quinolines are potential candidates that may provide some insight into the current chemotherapeutic research due to their demonstrated anti-cancer activity. This led us to synthesize and explore a new amino-azo-quinoline ligand H2L 1 and its square planar nickel(II) complexes [Ni(HL)(OAc)], 2 and [Ni(HL)Cl], 3 and the structures were determined by SCXRD. Theoretical investigation of redox orbitals of the complexes discloses that the reduction process is due to ligand reduction whereas both metal and ligand are contributing towards oxidation.

Breast cancers of the IntClust-2 type, characterized by amplification of a small portion of chromosome 11, have a median survival of only five years. Several cancer-relevant genes occupy this portion of chromosome 11, and it is thought that overexpression of a combination of driver genes in this region is responsible for the poor outcome of women in this group. In this study we used a gene editing method to knock out, one by one, each of 198 genes that are located within the amplified region of chromosome 11 and determined how much each of these genes contributed to the survival of breast cancer cells.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease causing myelin and axon damage through inflammatory and autoimmune processes. Despite affecting millions worldwide, understanding its genetic pathways remains limited. The choroid plexus (ChP) has been studied in neurodegenerative processes and diseases like MS due to its dysregulation, yet its role in MS pathophysiology remains unclear.

The work is aimed to investigate whether midazolam functions in thyroid cancer and reveal the potential mechanism of action. Cell viability was detected by CCK-8 method when treated by varying doses of midazolam to detect the cytotoxicity of midazolam on human thyroid follicular epithelial cell line and thyroid cancer cell lines. In thyroid cancer cells, EDU staining, wound healing and transwell assays were respectively used to detect cell proliferation, migration and invasion.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignancies. Hypoxia can promote the occurrence and development of CRC. However, how hypoxia regulates the CRC immune microenvironment needs to be further explored.
