The production of phytylated chlorophyll (Chl ) in , which uses phytylated bacteriochlorophyll (BChl ), is the first step in expanding the light absorption spectra. Unlike the chlorophyll synthase (ChlG) of the sp. PCC6803, ChlGs of angiosperms, including , , , and , showed bacteriochlorophyll synthase activity and resistance to inhibition by bacteriochlorophyllide (BChlide ), geranylgeranylated BChl (BChl ), and BChl , collectively called bacteriochlorins. Among the angiosperm ChlGs, ChlG had the highest bacteriochlorophyll synthase activity and resistance to inhibition by bacteriochlorins. Expression of in resulted in the formation of free Chl in the presence of BChl during photoheterotrophic growth, even though reactive oxygen species were generated.

Elevated levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) are caused by ultraviolet B radiation (UV-B) stress. In response, plants strengthen their cell membranes, impeding photosynthesis. Additionally, UV-B stress initiates oxidative stress within the antioxidant defense system and alters secondary metabolism, particularly by increasing the quantity of UV-absorbing compounds such as flavonoids.

Serious neurological disorders were associated with cadmium toxicity. Hence, this research aimed to investigate the potential neuroprotective impacts of the ethanolic extracts of Citrus aurantium unripe fruits and leaves (CAF and CAL, respectively) at doses 100 and 200 mg/kg against cadmium chloride-provoked brain dysfunction in rats for 30 consecutive days. HPLC for natural pigment content revealed that CAF implied higher contents of Chlorophyll B, while the CAL has a high yield of chlorophyll A and total carotenoid.

Article Synopsis
  • Salt-drought stress negatively impacts crop productivity by disrupting chlorophyll (Chl) and carbon balance, driving research into the use of endophytes and silicon (Si) for restoration.
  • This study focuses on the effects of Bacillus (Bs), Si, and their combination on Chl metabolism and carbon balance in G. uralensis seedlings under salt-drought conditions, revealing that both treatments improve these metabolic processes.
  • The combined treatment of Bs and Si not only enhanced Chl conversion and RuBisco activity but also optimized carbohydrate metabolism, highlighting their potential to boost crop resilience to environmental stresses and support sustainable agriculture initiatives.
