Caregiver/patient fall injury risks increase when medical tubing drapes on floors. The objective of this research was to examine the value of a novel carriage system that organizes and elevates medical and intravenous (IV) tubing. Using a prospective, multicenter, cohort design, value of the IV carriage system was assessed using a valid, reliable survey that provided the total score and scores of 3 involvement factors: personal relevance, attitude, and importance. The survey was scored on a 0-100 scale, and questions about tubing elevation, patient mobility, and ease of use were rated on 0-10 scales. Participants were adult and pediatric inpatient caregivers (n = 131). In adult intensive care environments (n = 61), carriage system value scores were higher in the quaternary care site compared to 4 enterprise adult intensive care sites (median [Q1, Q3]: 90.0 [69.2, 97.5] vs 72.5 [52.5, 78.3], respectively; P = .008). Compared to nurses working in adult environments (n = 58), pediatric nurses (n = 40) had higher value scores (median [Q1, Q3]: 89.2 [68.3, 97.5] vs 97.5 [85.8, 100.0], respectively; P = .007). High median score ratings (9-10) were given for tubing elevation, patient mobility, and ease of use. In conclusion, the IV carriage system was valued by nurses as an important tool in clinical practice.

This study aims to understand the impact of backpack carriage, a regular activity for many, on back muscles and joint mobility during walking so that clinicians can develop strategies or products to ensure individuals' safety and well-being. Surface electromyography (EMG) and XSENS Awinda motion capture systems were used to analyze the effects of carrying a backpack (12% of body weight) on erector spinae and multifidus muscles, as well as spinal, hip, knee, and ankle joints. Subjects walked at 4 km/h on flat and inclined surfaces.

Introduction: Understanding the characteristics and implications of the use of baby carriers can help health care providers understand the habits of their patients and provide guidance to improve quality of life in both children and caregivers. The aim of our study was to design and validate the first self-administered questionnaire to assess babywearing habits and their impact on health and physical activity as a means to monitor musculoskeletal complaints in caregivers.
Material And Methods: 350 individuals who currently used or had used baby carrying systems in the last 10 years completed the questionnaire, which was previously subject to a pilot study in a panel of experts.

Background: Pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCV) reduced invasive disease, but the overall prevalence of pneumococcal nasopharyngeal colonization among children has not changed significantly. Our knowledge of which serotypes, once colonized, hold a higher likelihood to cause invasive disease is limited.
Methods: Serotype-specific invasive capacity (IC) of Streptococcus pneumoniae was estimated using an enhanced population-based invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) surveillance in children <7 years of age in Massachusetts and surveillance of nasopharyngeal (NP) colonization in selected Massachusetts communities in corresponding respiratory seasons.

Animals destined for human consumption play a key role in potentially transmitting bacteria carrying antibiotic resistance genes. However, there is limited knowledge about the carriage of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in native breeds. We aimed to characterize the phenotypic profiles and antibiotic resistance genes in isolated from bovines, including three native Portuguese bovine breeds.

The emergence of carbapenem-resistant pathogenic bacteria is a growing global public health concern. Carbapenem-resistant uropathogenic strains of can cause uncomplicated or complicated urinary tract infections, leading to a high risk of treatment failure and the spread of resistance determinants. The objectives of this 24-month study were to identify the prognostic characteristics of patients who were infected with carbapenem-resistant () and to create a tool to estimate the probability of a infection before having the complete results of a patient's antibiogram.
