Timed artificial insemination (TAI) is a technology widely used in cattle production based on controlling ovarian follicular growth. This study analyzed a large database aiming to determine the influence of several intrinsic and extrinsic female factors, as well as their interactions to determine risk factors and produce prediction ability in beef cattle. A total of 1 832 999 TAIs conducted on 2 002 farms across South American countries were considered for the analysis, including 15 main fixed effects or interactions in the statistical model, in addition to five random effects.

The retreat of Arctic sea ice has opened new maritime routes, offering faster shipping opportunities; however, these routes present significant navigational challenges due to the harsh ice conditions. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a deep learning-based Arctic ice risk management architecture with multiple modules, including ice classification, risk assessment, ice floe tracking, and ice load calculations. A comprehensive dataset of 15,000 ice images was created using public sources and contributions from the Canadian Coast Guard, and it was used to support the development and evaluation of the system.

Investigation of Crack Propagation in Locally Thermal-Treated Cast Iron.

Materials (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Transport Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Design, Kaunas University of Technology, 44249 Kaunas, Lithuania.

Cyclic failure problems in layered ductile iron are evident in a wide range of elements in transportation and mining equipment and depend on production technology and operating conditions. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of residual stresses on the behavior of cyclic and static failure. The stress intensity factor, crack initiation, propagation patterns, static tension diagrams, and fracture behavior of compact tension (CT) specimens were determined.

Background: Malnutrition is significantly associated with unfavorable outcomes, but the relevant prognostic assessment is not emphasized in patients who have osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). This study aimed to assess the association between preoperative nutritional status evaluated by the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) and walking independence at one year postoperatively in patients who have ONFH undergoing primary total hip arthroplasty (THA).

Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data from patients admitted to a tertiary referral hospital who had ONFH and underwent primary unilateral THA from October 30, 2014 to April 26, 2019.

Orthopaedic Trauma Institute, University of California, San Francisco, 2540 23rd Street, Bldg 7, 3rd Floor, Rm 3110, San Francisco, CA 94110, USA. Electronic address:

Introduction: The development of national registries from routinely collected health data has transformed the research landscape by improving access to large sample populations. This growing volume of data enables researchers to address critical questions but also challenges clinicians in conducting, evaluating, and applying the research. The National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB), the largest aggregate of deidentified trauma data in the world, is increasingly utilized for retrospective studies on trauma.
