Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) are industrial formulations that are ubiquitous in every home and supermarket aisle. This food group includes snacks, soft drinks, ready-to-eat products like pizzas, nuggets, burger till commercial breads. Multiple long cohort studies have shown a relationship between their consumption and the rise in the incidence of obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, colorectal cancer and all-cause mortality. In addition, UPFs generate carbon and water footprints with a negative impact in our environment. The intestinal microbiota would play a central role as a trigger of metabolic inflammation (metainflammation). We need to reduce consumption of UPFs and promote healthier and accessible eating habits. Official public policies are needed.

Phosphorus (P) fertilizer is an essential component of our food system with the majority of all mined P rock processed to make mineral fertilizers. Globally however P rock stocks are declining-both in quality and quantity-with poor P management creating a linear economic system where P is mined, globally redistributed into products and eventually discharged into the environment leading to eutrophication. To enable establishment of a circular P economy, whereby P can be recovered from waste for its industrial reuse, requires the development of effective P recovery technologies.

Introduction: In 2022-2023, examinations were carried out for the presence of a pathogenic bacterium in ready-to-eat (RTE) vegetable products (sprouts and vegetable mixtures and salads) sold for immediate consumption in retail shops located in Lublin, eastern Poland. The identification of strains were performed according to the Polish Standard and accomplished with the Microgen Listeria-ID System.
Results: A high prevalence of infections was found in the unprocessed sprouts of plants belonging to the cabbage (Brassicaceae) family - kale (30.

The study analyzes a CDC dataset on US adult obesity and physical activity from 2011 to 2022. Despite rising obesity rates and insufficient fruit consumption, physical activity levels are increasing and overweight rates are slightly declining. The role of ultra-processed food intake, price sensitivity, early eating habits, and stress in obesity is highlighted.

Farms that engage in agritourism and provide niche products such as raw milk directly to consumers may request a biosecurity plan from the animal health advisors. Veterinarians who have relationships with these operations should be familiar with the state and federal requirements and pathogens of interest that may be present in raw milk and products processed from raw milk. Biosecurity plans involve an understanding of risk and specific farm goals.

American culture encourages overconsumption, fueled by ubiquitous availability and pervasive marketing of ultra-processed foods and other addictive substances. This chronic overindulgence has contributed to rising rates of obesity, type 2 diabetes (T2D), substance abuse, mental health disorders and premature mortality. Glucose-like peptide-1 agonists (GLP-1RAs) affect the brain's reward pathway that mediates addiction to foods and various other substances.
