Published: July 2023

Background: The reported success rate of uterine artery embolization (UAE) for postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) differs by the cause of bleeding; in some reports, UAE shows less successful results in patients with placenta accreta spectrum (PAS).

Purpose: To evaluate the outcome of UAE for treating PPH associated with PAS.

Material And Methods: From September 2011 to September 2021, 227 patients (mean age = 34.67±4.06 years; age range = 19-47 years) underwent UAE for managing intractable PPH. Patients were divided into two groups: those with PAS (n = 46) and those without PAS (n = 181). Delivery details, embolization details, and procedure-related outcomes were compared between the two groups. values <0.05 were considered statistically significant.

Results: The technical success rate was 96.9% (n = 222) and the clinical success rate was 93.8% (n = 215). There were no significant differences in outcome of UAE between the two patient groups. The technical success rate was 95.7% (n = 44) in patients with PAS and 98.3% (n = 178) in patients without PAS (= 0.267). The clinical success rate was 91.3% (n = 42) in patients with PAS and 95.6% (n = 173) in patients without PAS ( = 0.269). There were 24 cases of immediate complications, including pelvic pain (n = 20), urticaria (n = 3), and puncture site hematoma (n = 1). No major complication was reported.

Conclusion: UAE is a safe and effective method to control intractable PPH for patients with or without PAS.

Background: Uterine endometrial natural killer (uNK) cells represent major leukocytes in the mid-secretory phase of the cell cycle, and their number is further increased during early pregnancy. The activating and inhibitory receptors expressed on their surface mediate various functions of uNK cells, such as cytotoxicity, cytokine production, spiral artery remodeling, and self-recognition.

Methods: This study reviewed the most recent information (PubMed database, 175 articles included) regarding the activating and inhibitory receptors on uNK cells in human females with healthy pregnancies and the evidence indicating their significance in various reproductive failures.

Uterine artery embolization plus ultrasound guided curettage for cesarean scar pregnancy: Five-year experience at a single tertiary hospital.

Taiwan J Obstet Gynecol

January 2025

Department of Gynecology & Obstetrics, Beijing friendship hospital, Capital Medical University, No. 95, Yong'an Road, Xi-cheng district, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

Objective: To study immediate therapeutic outcomes, subsequent fertility effects and menstrual changes in cesarean scar pregnancy patients who received uterine artery embolization with or without methotrexate followed by ultrasound guided curettage.

Materials And Methods: Totally, 82 patients who met the inclusion criteria were enrolled in our study and divided into two groups. Group I included 50 patients who received uterine artery embolization and ultrasound guided curettage, and Group II had 32 patients who received uterine artery embolization plus methotrexate and ultrasound guided curettage.

Objective: To study perinatal outcomes for newborns with early, isolated, severe FGR, for whom initial active management was considered unreasonable or impossible at an obstetric-pediatric assessment and to identify the determinants associated with a course that made active management reasonable.

Material And Methods: This retrospective observational single-center study occurred in a level-3 university hospital maternity unit. It included all pregnancies with a singleton fetus presenting isolated FGR <3rd percentile at 23 weeks or more of gestation with an obstetric-pediatric assessment (OPA) initially unfavorable to active management.

Background: Preclinical studies have documented the role of alpha-adrenergic agonists in myometrial contraction. Phenylephrine is frequently used to prevent and treat post-spinal hypotension during cesarean delivery. We hypothesized phenylephrine would reduce postpartum blood loss due to alpha-1 receptor-mediated uterine and vascular smooth muscle contraction.

Objective: The aim of this study was to comparatively analyze the therapeutic effects of uterine artery embolization (UAE) and laparoscopic myomectomy (LM) on uterine fibroids to determine which treatment method is more beneficial for patients.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 396 patients who underwent UAE (n = 153) or LM (n = 243) treatment from April 2010 to September 2019. After 1:1 propensity score matching (PSM), a comparative analysis was conducted on surgical trauma magnitude, postoperative recovery time, improvement in associated symptoms and quality of life, surgical adverse events, recurrence rates, and further interventions.
