An important part of scientific training in undergraduate curriculum involves teaching students how to effectively communicate in science. Scientific writing and oral presentations are important parts of most science classes. The same cannot be said about a new and emerging aspect of many recent scientific articles: graphical abstracts. In recent years, many scientific journals have adopted graphical abstracts as a way to capture both the scientific audience and increase visibility on social media platforms. Graphical abstracts are becoming the norm for many journals; however, there is no equivalent training in undergraduate classes that teaches students the intricate skills of efficient graphical design. In this paper, we share our course design and discuss how students can be taught to design better experiments and excel in communicating their research findings through graphical abstracts.

Graphical Abstract Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) mediates peripheral tissue triglyceride (TG) uptake. Hepatic ANGPTL3 (A3) and ANGPTL8 (A8) form a complex and inhibit LPL activity in the white adipose tissue (WAT) via systematic circulation. ANGPTL4 (A4) is expressed in WAT and inhibits LPL activity locally.

Unlabelled: Breast cancer remains a global health challenge, with rising cases predicted in the coming decades. The complexity of breast cancer treatment arises from its complex nature, often involving multiple therapeutic strategies. One promising approach is targeting the ERK5 pathway, a key regulator in cancer cell proliferation and survival.

HFpEF is a prevalent and complex type of heart failure. The concurrent presence of conditions such as obesity, hypertension, hyperglycemia, and hyperlipidemia significantly increase the risk of developing HFpEF. Mitochondria, often referred to as the powerhouses of the cell, are crucial in maintaining cellular functions, including ATP production, intracellular Ca regulation, reactive oxygen species generation and clearance, and the regulation of apoptosis.

Skeletal muscle atrophy, which is induced by factors such as disuse, spaceflight, certain medications, neurological disorders, and malnutrition, is a global health issue that lacks effective treatment. Hindlimb unloading is a commonly used model of muscle atrophy. However, the underlying mechanism of muscle atrophy induced by hindlimb unloading remains unclear, particularly from the perspective of the myocyte proteome and metabolism.
