To study the diagnostic value of lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2(LP-PL-A2) in occult pancreaticobiliary reflux(OPBR) combined with gallbladder cholesterol deposition. This was a case-control study. Forty-six patients with OPBR who underwent gallbladder surgery at Shanghai East Hospital from December 2020 to October 2021, with gallbladder cholesterol deposition as the case group and the remainder as the control group, were included for analysis of their clinical data. There were 21 cases in the case group, with 10 males and 11 females, and aged (57±12) years; 25 cases in the control group, with 11 males and 14 females, and aged (56±10) years. Serum LP-PL-A2 [(551.62±128.69) U/L] was significantly higher in the case group than in the control group [(436.70±135.88) U/L] (=-2.80,<0.01).Univariate analysis showed that LP-PL-A2 was a risk factor for OPBR combined with gallbladder cholesterol deposition, (95%):1.007(1.002-1.012), =0.011. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) curve was 0.742, 0.005. LP-PL-A2 is of diagnostic value in OPBR combined with gallbladder cholesterol deposition.

Background: India has a high incidence of gallstones, which can cause chronic inflammation and increase the risk of gallbladder cancer. Understanding the age and composition of gallstones can provide insights into their formation and growth. This study used ¹⁴C dating, FTIR, and metagenome analysis to explore the natural history, deposition rate, and microbial/chemical composition of gallstones.

Cholesterol gallstone is a disease with high incidence and quality of life. This study aimed to investigate the function of exosome-derived miRNA in gallstone formation and its related molecular mechanism. Exosomes were extracted and isolated from patients with gallbladder stones and age- and gender-matched healthy controls, and exosomal miRNA expression was compared between the two groups.

Manganese (Mn), a trace element, has been documented to exert an important role in the metabolism of cholesterol. Cholesterol gallstone (CG) pathogenesis is directly linked to biliary cholesterol imbalance which could be due to diabetes complications or mismanagement. NF-κβ pathway, an inflammatory regulator, has been implicated in metabolic disease especially in the context of diabetes and gallstone formation.

Background: Cholelithiasis areis a common digestive system disorder, with cholesterol gallstones being the most prevalent type. Gallstones lead to many severe complications, posing a significant burden on global healthcare systems. Many studies have shown associations between biliary microbiota, gallbladder immune microenvironment, and gallstone formation.

While methyl-tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) remains the sole clinical topical agent for gallstone dissolution, its utility is limited due to side effects, largely stemming from its relatively low boiling point (55°C). In this study, we introduced 2-methoxy-6-methylpyridine (MMP), a novel gallstone-dissolving compound featuring an aromatic moiety and a substantially higher boiling point (156°C), designed to mitigate these side effects. We conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the efficacy and potential toxicities of MMP compared to MTBE using both in vitro and in vivo models.
