The last few years have witnessed the change in the modalities of smuggling of synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonists (SCRAs) by impregnating them in mail envelopes and fast parcels. Considering the aforementioned scenario, it is important to develop a portable technique to identifying SCRAs through packages. The purpose of this research was to detect SCRAs impregnated into substrates of paper using attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy.

Lignin-Modified Carbon Nanotube/Graphene Hybrid Coating as Efficient Flame Retardant.

Int J Mol Sci

November 2017

School of Environmental and Forest Sciences (SEFS), University of Washington, 4000 15th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98195, USA.

To reduce fire hazards and expand high-value applications of lignocellulosic materials, thin films comprising graphene nanoplatelets (GnPs) and multi-wall carbon nanotubes (CNTs) pre-adsorbed with alkali lignin were deposited by a Meyer rod process. Lightweight and highly flexible papers with increased gas impermeability were obtained by coating a protective layer of carbon nanomaterials in a randomly oriented and overlapped network structure. Assessment of the thermal and flammability properties of papers containing as low as 4 wt % carbon nanomaterials exhibited self-extinguishing behavior and yielded up to 83.

Article Synopsis
  • The study measured the levels of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) in various newsprints and copy papers using advanced chemistry techniques like isotope dilution and high-resolution gas chromatography/mass spectrometry.
  • Results showed that newsprints had higher total concentrations of PCDD/Fs than copy papers, yet the total toxicity equivalent values were lower for newsprint compared to copy paper.
  • Printed papers contained higher levels of PCDD/Fs than blank samples for both types of paper, with distinct patterns observed between newsprint and copy paper; TEQ values for newsprints ranged from 0.48 to 0.61 ng/kg, while
