This study aims to investigate the mediating role of depression and the moderating effect of gender in the relationship between total sleep time (TST) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) in middle-aged and elderly people (aged 45 or above). The data used in this study is from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), including a total of 10,460 respondents. Associations between TST, IADL, depression, and gender were analyzed using logistic regression and Karlson, Holm, and Breen (KHB) methods. Short (OR = 1.42, 95% CI = 1.28-1.58 of ≤6 h) and long TST (OR = 1.16, 95% CI = 1.02-1.32 of 8-9 h; OR = 1.35, 95% CI = 1.19-1.54 of >9 h) were both associated with IADL. The mediation effect analyses observed that depression explained 64.80% of the total effect of short TST (≤6 h) and IADL, but was insignificant in long TST (8-9 h and >9 h). Meanwhile, gender has moderating effects on the mediation effect model. The study suggests that health interventions that focused on the dimensions of TST and depression are crucial for preventing functional disability while accounting for gender differences.

The role of self-intercalation in 2D van der Waals materials is key to the understanding of many of their properties. Here we show that the magnetic ordering temperature of thin films of the 2D ferromagnet Fe_{5}GeTe_{2} is substantially increased by self-intercalated Fe that resides in the van der Waals gaps. The epitaxial films were prepared by molecular beam epitaxy and their magnetic properties explored by element-specific x-ray magnetic circular dichroism that showed ferromagnetic ordering up to 375 K.

The role of the intrarenal renin-angiotensin system (iRAS) in diabetic kidney disease (DKD) progression remains unclear. In this study, we generated mice with renal tubule-specific deletion of angiotensinogen (Agt; RT-Agt-/-) in both Akita and streptozotocin (STZ)-induced mouse model of diabetes. Both Akita RT-Agt-/- and STZ-RT-Agt-/- mice exhibited significant attenuation of glomerular hyperfiltration, urinary albumin/creatinine ratio, glomerulomegaly and tubular injury.

This study aims to suggest and empirically evaluate a conceptual framework that investigates the association of career self-efficacy with career intentions, emphasizing on the specific and sequential mediating mechanisms of two psychological constructs: person-environment (P-E) fit and career attitudes. Relationships among the constructs were hypothesized based on the relevant literature and were examined with AMOS and SPSS Process Macro using survey data collected from a sample of 341 job seekers in Bangladesh. Results showed that P-E fit and career attitudes each partially mediated the relationship between career self-efficacy and career intentions.
