Devices for assessing microcirculation.

Curr Opin Crit Care

Cátedra de Farmacología Aplicada, Facultad de Ciencias Médicas, Universidad Nacional de La Plata, La Plata.

Published: June 2023

Purpose Of Review: Devices for assessing microcirculation at the bedside have been a technological breakthrough in the critical care field. Thanks to this technology, a large body of scientific evidence has highlighted the relevance of microcirculatory disruptions during critical illness. The goal of this review is to analyze the current knowledge concerning microcirculation monitoring, mainly focused on clinically available devices.

Recent Findings: New evidence in oxygenation monitoring, advances in hand-held vital microscopes, and improvements in laser-based techniques ensure the possibility of detecting poor resuscitation, testing vascular reactivity, and assessing the effect of therapy during shock and resuscitation.

Summary: Currently, there are several methods for microcirculatory monitoring. To properly apply and correctly interpret the information they provide, clinicians should know the fundamental principles and the strengths and weaknesses of the clinically available devices.

Background: Efficient emergency patient transport systems, which are crucial for delivering timely medical care to individuals in critical situations, face certain challenges. To address this, CONNECT-AI (CONnected Network for EMS Comprehensive Technical-Support using Artificial Intelligence), a novel digital platform, was introduced. This artificial intelligence (AI)-based network provides comprehensive technical support for the real-time sharing of medical information at the prehospital stage.

Hypertrophic scars (HTSs) are the result of an abnormal healing process resulting from burns and other severe traumas. The symptoms of that condition include skin irritation, discomfort, and itching. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of fractional carbon dioxide (CO) laser therapy alone or with triamcinolone or 5-fluorouracil (FU) in the treatment of early post-burn hypertrophic scars (HTSs) that develop during the first 6 months after the injury.

Prediction models for the complication incidence and survival rate of dental implants-a systematic review and critical appraisal.

Int J Implant Dent

January 2025

Center of Oral Implantology, Stomatological Hospital, School of Stomatology, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

Purpose: This systematic review aims to assess the performance, methodological quality and reporting transparency in prediction models for the dental implant's complications and survival rates.

Methods: A literature search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase databases. Peer-reviewed studies that developed prediction models for dental implant's complications and survival rate were included.

Background: The RELAY-Brain trial examined the clinical utility and survival impacts of ramucirumab (RAM) combined with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-TKI in patients with EGFR-mutated non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with brain metastases. Although RAM combined with erlotinib (ERL) is known to have clinical benefits, the benefits in patients with baseline brain metastases remain unclear. This report examined the long-term follow-up data (Japan Registry of Clinical Trials: jRCTs2051190027) of the same patients, analyzing relevant biomarkers from tumor and plasma samples.
