Background: Reducing risk of dementia requires a person to have accessible information about health and risk factors, person-centered health goals, and self-efficacy. Here, we test the feasibility of a new risk reduction program called Brain Wellness Information, Support, and Empowerment (Brain-WISE). Its unique features are that it (1) is aligned with a theoretical model of behavior change, (2) is relatively brief (six 90-min sessions), (3) is conducted with groups of people who have pre-existing community; (4) includes individual and group activities and person-centered health goals; and (5) is conducted with speech-language therapists.

Background: Rural populations are under-represented in cognitive studies worldwide. The few extant studies report differences in risk profiles for pre-dementia and dementia syndromes among urban and rural residents. We compared risk factors and brain substrates of Motoric Cognitive Risk (MCR) syndrome, a pre-dementia syndrome identified by slow gait speed and subjective cognitive concerns, in urban and rural participants in the Kerala-Einstein study.

Over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids are a recently approved, lower-cost method of hearing treatment which can be accessed directly by patients. However, there are almost no data which can guide whether to recommend this treatment for adults with MCI or ADRD.

Background: The elderly population is particularly susceptible to the development of age-related hearing loss and cognitive impairment. The gradual decline in auditory perception often goes unnoticed, leading to a detrimental impact on their quality of life, mental well-being, and overall communication skills. Extensive research indicates that prolonged social isolation can exacerbate cognitive decline.

Background: Hearing rehabilitation has been a promising approach to improve cognitive outcomes. An ongoing study identified some barriers to engage patients in counseling sessions and using their hearing devices. Here we present the results from the first stage of a Sense-Cog Brazil pilot study, the recruitment phase.
