Diffusion dialysis (DD) process utilizing anion exchange membranes (AEMs) is an environmentally-friendly and energy-efficient technology. From acidic wastewater, DD is needed for acid recovery. This research reports the development of a series of dense tropinium-functionalized AEMs via solution casting method. Fourier Infrared transform (FTIR) spectroscopy verified the successful preparation of AEMs. The developed AEMs exhibited a dense morphology, featuring 0.98-2.42 mmol/g of ion exchange capacity (IEC), 30-81% of water uptake (W) and 7-32% of linear swelling ratio (LSR). They displayed exceptional mechanical, thermal and chemical stability and were employed for acid waste treatment from HCl/FeCl mixtures via DD process. AEMs possessed 20 to 59 (10 m/h) and 166 to 362 of acid diffusion dialysis coefficient (U) and separation factor (S) respectively at 25 °C. Compared to DF-120 commercial membrane (U = 0.004 m/h, S = 24.3), their DD efficiency was improved under identical experimental conditions.

The simultaneous occurrence of vasculitic glomerulonephritis and membranous nephropathy is unusual. We report two cases that presented to our outpatient department with rapidly progressive renal failure. On evaluation, in one patient, anti-myeloperoxidase (MPO) titers were high, and renal biopsy was suggestive of concurrent necrotizing and diffuse crescentic anti-MPO anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antigen-associated glomerulonephritis with the circumferential cellular crescent formation and membranous glomerulopathy.

In this study an in situ forming gel for curcumin and piperine delivery is investigated as a long-lasting strategy in the local treatment of inflammatory and degenerative joint disease, such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Particularly glyceryl monooleate, in association with phosphatidylcholine and ethanol, were employed. Different ratios between excipients were tested, with the aim to obtain a liquid form suitable for subcutaneous injection, gaining a semisolid consistency in contact with biological fluids.

Background: Water retention, ultrafiltration insufficiency, and metabolic complications due to abnormally high glucose concentrations are still common problems in patients treated with peritoneal dialysis. Phloretin, a nonselective inhibitor of facilitative glucose transporter channels (GLUT), has shown to improve water transport and lower glucose absorption in experimental peritoneal dialysis. However, the dose-response relationship remains unknown, and we therefore performed a dose-response study to elucidate the pharmacodynamic properties of intra-peritoneal phloretin therapy.
