Electronic address:

Polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEMs) based on hyaluronic acid (HA) and poly (diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) were deposited on oxidized polystyrene (PS) via the layer-by-layer (LbL) method. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed the PEM deposition on PS, and atomic force microscopy (AFM) indicated that the surface roughness of PS also increased after PEM deposition. The PEMs significantly enhanced PS wettability, reducing the contact angle from 73° on PS to 24° on PDDA-terminated (PDDA/HA) PEM (2.

Science tells us that portable air filters reduce infection risk. It's time for public health authorities to make this clear.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Canadian public health advisors and politicians have shared mixed messages about the utility of portable air filters (PAFs) for mitigating the transmission of airborne infectious diseases. Some public health advisors and decision-makers have also suggested that PAFs are cumbersome or require expert advice. We take this opportunity to review evidence and address myths about PAFs.

The retromer is a highly conserved eukaryotic complex formed by the cargo selective complex (CSC) and the sorting nexin (SNX) dimer subcomplexes. Its function is protein recycling and recovery from the endosomes to conduct the target molecules to the trans-Golgi network or the plasma membrane. The protozoan responsible for human amoebiasis, , exhibits an active membrane movement and voracious phagocytosis, events in which the retromer may be fully involved.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, both government-mandated lockdowns and discretionary changes in behaviour combined to produce dramatic and abrupt changes to human mobility patterns. To understand the socioeconomic determinants of intervention compliance and discretionary behavioural responses to epidemic threats, we investigate whether changes in human mobility showed a systematic variation by socioeconomic status during two distinct periods of the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia. We analyse mobility data from two major urban centres and compare the trends during mandated stay-at-home policies and after the full relaxation of nonpharmaceutical interventions, which coincided with a large surge of COVID-19 cases.

Motion mapping and positioning of lumbrical muscles in the carpal tunnel-a cadaveric study.

J Orthop

July 2025

Department of Hand Surgery, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, Karnataka, 576104, India.

Aims And Objectives: Dynamic incursion of lumbrical muscle proximal to the distal edge of transverse carpal ligament (TCL) has been long debated for its role in causing median nerve compression in the carpal tunnel. This study aims to evaluate the pattern of lumbrical incursion into the carpal tunnel in various finger positions and determine their extent of presence and relationship with respect to the TCL and to each other in the carpal tunnel.

Materials & Methods: Dissection of 30 fresh frozen cadaveric hands was done to map the lumbrical muscles.
