Entropy and energy had not yet been introduced to physics by the time Carnot wrote his seminal Réflexions. Scholars continue to discuss what he really had in mind and what misconceptions he might have had. Actually, his work can be read as a correct introduction to the physics of heat engines when the term calorique is replaced by entropy and entropy is used as the other fundamental thermal quantity besides temperature.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of enrolling in Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) on short- and long-term housing outcomes among Veterans experiencing housing instability.
Study Setting And Design: We analyzed data from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) electronic health record (EHR) between October 2015 and December 2018 using the target trial emulation framework. Veterans were included in one or more trials if they were 18 years or older, had recent evidence of housing instability, had received care in VA for at least 1 year, and had never before enrolled in SSVF.

The restoration and treatment of underground voids have always posed significant challenges for constructing environmentally sustainable mines. To investigate the effectiveness of a combined approach involving waste rock filling and grouting roof filling as treatment methods to ensure safety and stability in mining voids, this study employed a comprehensive dynamic analysis approach. It specifically focused on an individual underground metal mine cavity by integrating numerical simulation analysis techniques with onsite displacement monitoring methods.

We make absolute frequency measurements of Cs Rydberg transitions, |6S_{1/2},F=3⟩→|nS_{1/2}(n=23-90)⟩ and |nD_{3/2,5/2}(n=21-90)⟩, with an accuracy of less than 72 kHz. The quantum defect parameters for the measured Rydberg series are the most precise obtained to date. The quantum defect series is terminated at δ_{4}, showing that prior fits requiring higher order quantum defects reflect uncertainties in the observations.
