A Gram-stain-negative bacterium, designated strain LB-8, was isolated from an activated sludge sample collected from a factory in Binzhou city, Shandong province, PR China. Cells of strain LB-8 were strictly aerobic, non-motile and rod-shaped. Growth occurred at 15-40 °C (optimum, 30 °C), at pH 6.0-9.0 (optimum, pH 7.0) and at 0-7.5 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 0.5 % NaCl). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain LB-8 formed a distinct phyletic branch within the family and was most closely related to members of the genera , and with 92.7-93.3 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities. The average amino acid identity values between strain LB-8 and its closed phylogenetic neighbours , and were below 70 % supporting that strain LB-8 was a member of a novel genus. The predominant cellular fatty acids of LB-8 were iso-C, anteiso-C, summed feature 3 (C 7 and/or C 6) and iso-C 3-OH, and the only isoprenoid quinone was menaquinone-7 (MK-7). The major polar lipids of strain LB-8 were phosphatidylethanolamine, four unidentified aminolipids and two unidentified lipids. The genome size of strain LB-8 was 7.01 Mbp with 41.2 mol% G+C content. On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain LB-8 represents a novel species of a new genus in the family , for which the name gen. nov., sp. nov. (type strain LB-8=GDMCC 1.3631=KCTC 92688) is proposed.

SbTe, a binary chalcogenide-based 3D topological insulator, attracts significant attention for its exceptional thermoelectric performance. We report the vibrational properties of magnetically doped SbTethermoelectric material. Ni doping induces defect/disorder in the system and plays a positive role in engineering the thermoelectric properties through tuning the vibrational phonon modes.

The present strategy proposes a simple and single step aqueous route for synthesizing stable, fluorescent ZnTe/dendrimer nanocomposites with varying dendrimer terminal groups. In these hybrid materials, the fluorescence of the semiconductor combines with the biomimetic properties of the dendrimer making them suitable for various biomedical applications. The ZnTe nanocomposites thus obtained demonstrate bactericidal activity against enteropathogenic bacteria without having toxic effects on the human erythrocytes.

Cytotoxicity of free Cu(II) ions and its complexes of EDTA, NTA or IDA in Escherichia coli (AB 4401) wild type cells were assessed by cell inactivation assay. In order to understand the toxic effects of these additives, membrane status by AFM vis-à-vis K(+) ion efflux were followed in the absence and in the presence of Cu(II) ions or its complexes. This was coupled with the determinations of cellular copper concentrations by atomic absorption spectrometry.

Feces and serum specimens were collected from three farms in Michigan on which approximately 50-lb (8- to 9-week-old) pigs experienced diarrhea just after placement into all-in-all-out finishing barns. The clinical signs (profuse watery diarrhea lasting about 2 weeks and no vomiting) were similar on all farms, and the morbidity rate was high (ranging from 60 to 80%) but without mortality. Eleven diarrheic fecal samples from the farms were tested for group A and C rotaviruses by immune electron microscopy (IEM) and various assays.
