The title compounds, CHNOS (), CHNOS (), and CHNOS (), form a homologous series in which the size of the saturated ring increases from six- to eight-membered (with four, five and six methyl-ene groups respectively). For and , the central (CH) moieties are all displaced to the same side of their ring, and the CH-CH-CH angles are much wider than the standard value; a database search indicates that these are general features of such ring systems. For , the thio-phene ring lies with the sulfur atom on the opposite side of the C-C bond to the cyano group, in contrast to and . For each compound, the packing may be described in terms of two 'weak' C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, which link the mol-ecules to form one-dimensional (, ) or three-dimensional () assemblies.

An experiment involving the ageing of Syrah red wine was conducted over a period of 24 months, during which the impact of four different micro-agglomerated corks was examined. An untargeted UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap metabolomics analysis was performed and provided valuable insights into the chemical dynamics of red wine evolution. Forty-three specific discriminating compounds were found for non-aged wines, including various CHO and CHON-types molecules.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), particularly UiO-66-NH, are employed as catalysts in many industrial catalyst applications. As converting catalysts into thin film significantly increases their catalytic properties, we report a general approach to synthesizing MOF thin films (UiO-66-Pyca-CuO). First, functionalization of UiO-66-NH was done with 3-pyridine carboxaldehyde by the postsynthesis method, and then, UiO-66-Pyca was entangled on the surface of copper oxide nanoparticles with a modern strategy (MOF thin film).
