Background: Many patients report moderate to severe pain in the acute postoperative period. Enhanced recovery protocols recommend multimodal analgesics, but the optimal combination of these is unknown.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to synthesize the best available evidence about effectiveness of multimodal analgesics on pain after adult cardiac surgery.
Methods: A systematic review to determine the effect of multimodal postoperative analgesics is proposed (International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews Registration CRD42022355834). Multiple databases including the Cochrane Library, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, American Psychological Association, the Education Resources Information Centre, the Excerpta Medica database, the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, Scopus, Web of Science, and clinical trials databases will be searched. Screening in Covidence and quality assessment will be conducted by 2 authors. A grading of recommendations, assessment, development, and evaluation summary of findings will be presented if meta-analysis is possible.
Introduction: Ischaemic stroke, primarily caused by thromboembolic events, typically arises as a consequence of underlying vascular or cardiac pathology. Non-thrombotic embolic strokes, although rare, are increasingly seen in interventional and intravascular procedures. Oxygen-ozone therapy (OOT) is one of the popular treatments for lumbar disc herniation, providing pain relief.
Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) typically presents with a spectrum of symptoms, including neuropsychiatric manifestations such as anxiety, depression, confusion, and, in severe cases, coma. While psychiatric symptoms are not uncommon in PHPT, acute psychosis is a rare presentation. In such cases, immediate control of serum calcium levels is crucial, and emergency parathyroidectomy may be required if medical management alone fails to control hypercalcemia.
Arterio-ureteral fistula (AUF) is a rare condition affecting nearby adult-only patients. Patients usually present with hematuria, often starting as intermittent hematuria which frequently increases, and may lead to hemorrhagic shock. Without rapid diagnosis and prompt treatment, AUF can be lethal.
Background: For complete disruption of the posterolateral corner (PLC) structures, operative treatment is most commonly advocated, as nonoperative treatment has higher rates of persistent lateral laxity and posttraumatic arthritis. Some studies have shown that acute direct repair results in revision rates upwards of 37% to 40% compared with 6% to 9% for initial reconstruction. In a recent study assessing the outcomes of acute repair of PLC avulsion injuries with 2 to 7 years of follow-up, patients with adequate tissue were shown to have a much lower failure rate than previously documented.
Objective: Assess the long-term outcome of pediatric myringoplasty.
Methods: Tympanoplasty type I, myringoplasty, was performed on 85 children (91 consecutive operations, 74 primary and 17 revisions) under 16 years of age. The perforations were sequela either to acute or chronic inflammatory middle ear disease.
