Urolithin, intestinal microbiota metabolites of ellagitannin-rich foods, exhibit anti-aging activities. However, urolithin A is significantly superior to other types of urolithin with regard to this anti-aging function. This study aimed to screen edible urolithin A-producing strains of bacteria and explore the corresponding anti-aging efficacy of fermented products produced by these strains using as a model. Our results showed that the strains CCFM1286, CCFM1290, and CCFM1291 converted ellagitannin to produce urolithin A; the corresponding yields of urolithin A from these strains were 15.90 ± 1.46, 24.70 ± 0.82, and 32.01 ± 0.97 μM, respectively. Furthermore, it was found that the pomegranate juice extracts fermented by the CCFM1286, CCFM1290, and CCFM1291 strains of could extend lifespan by 26.04 ± 0.12, 32.05 ± 0.14, and 46.33 ± 0.12%, respectively, by improving mitochondrial function and/or reducing reactive oxygen species levels. These findings highlight the potential application of this fermentation in the subsequent development of anti-aging products.

In this study, we present the synthesis of a silver nanocomposite by utilizing a β-cyclodextrin (βCD) polymer anchored onto the surface of magnetic g-CN (referred to as g-CN-FeO/βCD-Ag). The structure and composition of the g-CN-FeO/βCD-Ag nanocomposite were thoroughly characterized using various techniques, including FT-IR, FE-SEM-EDS, TEM, TGA, XRD, ICP, and VSM. This catalytic system exhibited excellent selectivity in reducing nitro groups, even in the presence of other reactive functional groups, resulting in high yields ranging from 85 to 98%.

Microalgae, have emerged as a potentially promising feed additive option due to their beneficial nutritional profile rich in bioactive compounds. The present study examines the incorporation of Chlorella sorokiniana (at 0.1% and 1%) into chicken feed compared to control feed and its effect on growth and health parameters of poultry grown at pilot plant scale.

Although acute myeloid leukemia (AML) affects hematopoietic stem cell (HSC)-supportive microenvironment, it is largely unknown whether leukemia-modified bone marrow (BM) microenvironment can be remodeled to support normal hematopoiesis after complete remission (CR). As a key element of BM microenvironment, endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) provide a feasible way to investigate BM microenvironment remodeling. Here, we find reduced and dysfunctional BM EPCs in AML patients, characterized by impaired angiogenesis and high ROS levels, could be partially remodeled after CR and improved by N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC).

Delivering protein drugs to the central nervous system (CNS) is challenging due to the blood-brain and blood-spinal cord barrier. Here we show that neutrophils, which naturally migrate through these barriers to inflamed CNS sites and release neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), can be leveraged for therapeutic delivery. Tannic acid nanoparticles tethered with anti-Ly6G antibody and interferon-β (aLy6G-IFNβ@TLP) are constructed for targeted neutrophil delivery.

The sepsis-induced acute lung injury (ALI) still represents one of the leading causes of death in critically ill patients, underscoring the need for novel therapies. Excessive activation of immune cells and damage of reactive oxygen species (ROS) are the main factors that exacerbate lung injury. Here, the multifaceted immunomodulatory nanocomplexes targeting the proinflammatory neutrophilic activation and ROS damage are established.
