pH-responsive antibacterial emulsion gel based on cinnamaldehyde and carboxymethyl chitosan for fruits preservation applications.

Int J Biol Macromol

School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Yantai University, Shandong Province, 264005, China. Electronic address:

Although the natural antibacterial agent, cinnamaldehyde, has been extensively studied in the field of food packaging, its water solubility and instability limit its further applications. The controllable responsive release can be achieved through encapsulation in responsive emulsion systems based on carboxymethyl chitosan. Herein, a pH-responsive antibacterial emulsion gel was constructed from cinnamaldehyde-loaded oil-in-water emulsion templates.

Advanced chitin-based composite hydrogels enabled by quercetin-mediated assembly for multifunctional applications.

Int J Biol Macromol

Jiangxi Provincial Engineering Research Center of Bamboo Advanced Materials and Conversion, Gannan Normal University, Ganzhou 341000, China. Electronic address:

Natural building blocks like chitins for self-assembling into complex materials have garnered significant interest owing to the inherent and diverse functionalities. However, challenges persist in the assembly of chitin-based composites, primarily stemming from chitin's poor solubility and compatibility. Herein, a quercetin-mediated multiple crosslinking strategy was developed to enhance compatibility by quercetin-mediated interfacial interactions between chitin and inorganic materials, achieving a series of chitin-based composite hydrogels with high performances.

Electronic address:

The wood industry's dependence on traditional petrochemical adhesives, which pose environmental and health risks, has spurred research into sustainable alternatives. Sustainable bio-based polysaccharide materials show promise due to their inherent adhesive properties, despite challenges related to mechanical weaknesses and water resistance. Inspired by the hardening mechanisms of nacre and arthropod cuticles, we have developed a novel biomimetic flame-retardant HPA/OCTS/VMT NSs-NH adhesive.

State Key Laboratory of Marine Food Processing & Safety Control, College of Food Science and Engineering, Ocean University of China, Qingdao 266404, China.

The intricate interactions between stevioside (STE) and milk protein (mixtures of whey protein isolate and sodium caseinate, WPI/SC) as well as interfacial stabilization mechanisms were investigated. At the molecular scale, it was observed that the incorporation of the steviol hydrophobic skeleton enhanced the surface hydrophobicity of WPI/SC (from 1560.73 to 2175.

State Key Laboratory of Infrared Physics, Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, No.500 Yutian Road, Shanghai, 200083, P. R. China.

Photodetectors (PDs) based on mix-dimensional heterojunctions (MDHJs) built from 2D layered materials and covalent-bonded semiconductors show the prospect of compensating the intrinsic weakness of 2D materials to realize their full potential. However, there is an open issue to improve the temporal response of PDs while maintaining high gain and sensitivity. Herein, photoconductive type MDHJs PDs with 2D InSe and covalent-bonded CdTe thin film are designed and fabricated in which InSe is the active layer and CdTe is the medium gain one.
