Background: As the global population increases, the demand for protein sources is expected to increase, driving the demand for cell-based cultivated meat. This study aimed to enhance the productivity of cultivated meat through optimization of the cell source and organization process.
Results: We engineered fibroblasts into myogenic cells via non-viral introduction of the MYOD1 gene, avoiding viral methods for safety.

Target trial emulation (TTE) is an observational, quasi-experimental research design that emulates a randomized clinical trial (RCT) structure within a large set of observational data; the "target trial" is a hypothetical RCT that would have ideally answered the research question. TTEs can address study objectives that, for ethical or logistic reasons, cannot easily be examined in RCTs. Advantages of TTEs over conventional approaches to observational data are that TTEs can reduce bias, improve the understanding of findings, and facilitate causal inference.

Background: Human nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) cell lines are in vitro model systems that are widely available, easy to handle, and provide an unlimited supply of material. They also bypass ethical concerns associated with the use of primary human cells or tissue. However, many of these cell lines including 5-8F, 6-10B, CNE-1, CNE-2, HNE-1, HONE-1, SUNE1, SUNE2, and NPC-TW01 have been shown to be misidentified or cross-contaminated.

Causal inference enables machine learning methods to estimate treatment effects of medical interventions from electronic health records (EHRs). The prevalence of such observational data and the difficulty for randomized controlled trials (RCT) to cover all population/treatment relationships make these methods increasingly attractive for studying causal effects. Background: There are limited data on duration of aromatase inhibitor (AI) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in breast cancer (BC) survivors. We examined the risk of CVD and mortality associated with the duration of AI use in postmenopausal women with early stage hormone receptor-positive BC.
Methods: Postmenopausal women diagnosed with hormone receptor-positive BC (n = 5853) who used an AI were included.
