A wealth of research focused on African American populations has connected rs2814778-CC ("Duffy-null") to decreased neutrophil (neutropenia) and leukocyte counts (leukopenia). While it has been proposed that this variant is benign, prior studies have shown that the misinterpretation of Duffy-null associated neutropenia and leukopenia can lead to unnecessary bone marrow biopsies, inequities in cytotoxic and chemotherapeutic treatment courses, under-enrollment in clinical trials, and other disparities. To investigate the phenotypic correlates of Duffy-null status, we conducted a phenome-wide association study (PheWAS) across more than 1,400 clinical conditions in All of Us, the Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Biobank, and the Million Veteran Program.

Background: The use of large multi-institutional databases in rotator cuff repair (RCR) research is expanding, but these studies are observational and cannot establish causation. This study examines the prevalence of causal language in clinical RCR database studies published from 2013 to 2022.
Methods: Administrative database and clinical registry studies on RCR published in eight orthopaedic journals from 2013 to 2022 were systematically identified and graded by two reviewers for the presence, absence, or inconsistent use of causal language in both the title/abstract and the full text.

The negative role of malnutrition in patients with Crohn's disease is known; however, many coexisting disease-related factors could cause misinterpretation of the real culprit. This study aimed to describe the role of malnutrition using a novel methodology, This was a retrospective analysis of consecutive patients undergoing elective major surgery for Crohn's disease, preoperatively screened following the European Society for Clinical Nutrition guidelines. Two-step was applied to the group of malnourished patients to obtain an equal cohort having a null or low risk of malnutrition.
