Four new glycosides, named amplexicosides A-D (-), and five known compounds: benzyl 2-[-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)--D-glucopyranosyloxy]-benzoate (), benzyl 2-neohesperidosyloxy-6-hydroxybenzoate (), chrysandroside A (), chrysandroside B () and camelliquercetiside C () were isolated from the branches and leaves of (Pit.) Cohen-Stuart. Their structures were elucidated using HR-ESI-MS and 1D- and 2D-NMR spectra and compared to reported NMR data. All of the isolated compounds were screened in an -glucosidase assay. Compounds , , and significantly inhibited -glucosidase with respective IC values of 254.9 ± 4.2, 304.8 ± 11.9 and 228.1 ± 16.4 μM.

The lack of sufficient flavour in perry represents a barrier to its further industrialization. This study aimed to investigate the effects of glutathione (GSH), β-glucosidase (Glu), and α-L-rhamnosidase (Rha) pretreatments, the fermentation temperature from 16 °C to 28 °C, and the aging time of 1, 2, and 3 years (PA1, PA2, and PA3) on the physicochemical properties, organic acids, and aroma profiles were investigated. The results demonstrated that the synergistic effect of Glu, Rha, and GSH was more effective than their individual or paired applications in enhancing the varietal aromas.

Macroalgae growing in the polar regions are exposed to extreme environment conditions and may induce differences in the structural and bioactive properties of their polysaccharides. Six brown macroalgae viz. kelp species - Saccharina latissima, Laminaria digitata, and Alaria esculenta; rockweed Fucus distichus; and filamentous macroalgae - Chorda filum and Chordaria flageliformis, from the Arctic were investigated for polysaccharides and their bioactivity.

Rationale: Panax quinquefolius L. (PQ), a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine and a food, is usually processed into various products, including white PQ, red PQ (two- or three-time steamed PQ), and black PQ (nine-time steamed PQ). Previous studies demonstrated that volatile components (VOCs) were the important active substances of PQ, which had antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-leukemia activities.

Black rice (BR) is beneficial for the health of animals and humans. Herein, we investigated the pharmacokinetics of cyanidin-3-glucoside (C3G), a major anthocyanin constituent of BR, in male rats. After its intravenous administration, C3G was rapidly distributed throughout the body and disappeared from the plasma.

Etnopharmacological Relevance: The Convolvulaceae or morning glory family, with about 2000 species in the world's Tropics and subtropics, stands out among the plants used in traditional medicine. Medicinal plant complexes with important purgative properties have been developed in Mexico and Brazil from members of the genera Ipomoea and Operculina with storage roots. Popularly known as the jalap roots, their resin glycosides cause purgative and laxative activities that facilitate bowel movements.
