Compromised gill health is a critical cause of forfeited welfare in Atlantic salmon farming. Detecting and quantifying the early onset of gill disease is important to reveal initial inflicting stimuli. We collected gill samples of 45 Atlantic salmon from 2 commercial recirculating aquaculture systems (RASs) spanning fry-to-market-size fish with no clinical signs of gill disease.

Background: Thailand has made significant progress in malaria control efforts in the past decade, with a decline in the number of reported cases. However, due to cross-border movements over the past 5 years, reported malaria cases in Thailand have risen. The Malaria Infection Study in Thailand (MIST) involves deliberate infection of healthy volunteers with Plasmodium vivax malaria parasites, and the assessment of the efficacy of potential vaccine and drug candidates in order to understand acquired protection against malaria parasites.

Introduction: Head and neck cancers (HNC) are devastating, thus imposing a negative impact on the appearance of an individual as well as vital activities such as eating, swallowing, speaking, and breathing. Therefore, HNC patients undergo distress, while their caregivers become overburdened. Religion and spirituality can be helpful for patients and their caregivers from diverse cultural backgrounds to cope with cancer.

Background: Racism in healthcare has led to disparate health outcomes amongst people of color. The construct of racism may be misunderstood, and research is lacking about the actions nurses can in the clinical setting take to reduce racism. The purpose of the study was to determine behaviors demonstrative of racism in nursing care and behaviors that are demonstrative of culturally humble nursing care to develop an awareness of racial bias in nursing to inform future educational practices.

Background: Patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) frequently experience sleep disturbance and psychological distress, such as depression and anxiety, which may have a negative impact on their health status and functional abilities. To gain a more comprehensive understanding of the symptoms of depression, anxiety, and sleep disturbance in patients with OSA, the current study utilized network analysis to examine the interconnections among these symptoms.
Methods: Depressive and anxiety symptoms were evaluated using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and sleep disturbance symptoms were evaluated using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI).
