Background: Sleeve gastrectomy (SG) is the most frequently performed bariatric surgery worldwide, offering effective weight loss and improvement in metabolic conditions. However, one of its major complications is the exacerbation or development of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), affecting over 30% of patients. While Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is often the preferred alternative for patients with pre-existing GERD, it may not be suitable for all patients due to contraindications or patient preference.

Case: A 75-year-old woman status post total shoulder arthroplasty and posterior rib resection 29 years previously experienced a low-energy intrathoracic scapular dislocation (ISD). Closed reduction under anesthesia was unsuccessful, and she required open surgical repair performed by a novel modification of Kibler's technique for medial scapular muscle repair.
Conclusion: This case is unique because increased range of motion after successful arthroplasty allowed her shoulder to flex forward enough to result in ISD.

In Japan, the hinotori™ surgical robot system (Medicaroid Corporation, Kobe, Japan) was approved for gastrointestinal surgeries in October 2022. This report details our initial experience performing liver resection using the hinotori™ system. Ten patients, who were assessed as cases that would benefit from the robot-assisted procedure, underwent liver resections using the hinotori™ system at Fujita Health University, Okazaki Medical Center, between August 2023 and October 2024.

Background/objectives: 5-aminulevulinic acid (5-ALA)-guided surgery for high-grade gliomas remains a challenge in neuro-oncological surgery. Inconsistent fluorescence visualisation, subjective quantification and false negatives due to blood, haemostatic agents or optical impediments from the external light source are some of the limitations of the present technology.
Methods: The preliminary results from this single-centre retrospective study are presented from the first 35 patients operated upon with the novel Nico Myriad Spectra System©.
