To control the semisolid processing of aluminum alloys produced by the additive manufacturing technique, an exhaustive knowledge of their rheological behavior is required. In the semisolid state, metallic materials can show rheological characteristics similar to those of polymers, so semisolid state shaping is one of the currently considered routes for additive manufacturing with metallic materials. In this work, an approximation of the rheological control of the A356 aluminum alloy for its subsequent 3D manufacturing was carried out at a very low shear rate. A continuous cooling rheometer was designed and used, evaluating the influence of different process parameters on the viscosity variation of the aluminum alloy in the semisolid state. The results show an anomalous flow variation, indicating dilatant, and not thixotropic behavior, for very low shear rates.

Electrochromic Fabric Device Based on Lamellar Polyaniline through Inkjet Printing.

Macromol Rapid Commun

State Key Laboratory of Advanced Fiber Materials, College of Materials Science and Engineering, Donghua University, Shanghai, 201620, China.

Flexible electrochromic devices (FECD) have been widely applied in smart displays, wearable devices, and other fields, however, the synchronous improvement of electrochromic performance and flexibility is still a challenge. In this paper, a fabric-based FECD with "side-by-side" structure is designed and constructed through inkjet printing. The polyaniline nanosheets with good dispersion are used as ink and electrochromic material, and the self-developed semi-solid electrolyte based on polyvinyl alcohol serves as gel electrolyte.

Key Laboratory of Precision Nutrition and Food Quality, Department of Nutrition and Health, China Agricultural University, No. 17 Tsinghua East Road, Haidian District, Beijing 100083, China.

The key role of enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation in the sensory quality of set yogurt made from whole oats was demonstrated. The optimal process was established by the orthogonal and response surface methodology based on the acidity, textural, and rheological properties. The results indicated that the enzymatic hydrolysis appropriately consisted of liquefaction with 12 U/mL α-amylase at 70 °C and pH 6.

Amphiphilic copolymers of comb-like poly(poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate) (PPEGMA) with methyl methacrylate (MMA) synthesized by one-pot atom transfer radical polymerization were mixed with lithium bis (trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide salt to formulate dry solid polymer electrolytes (DSPE) for semisolid-state Li-ion battery applications. The PEO-type side chain length (EO monomer's number) in the PEGMA macromonomer units was varied, and its influence on the mechanical and electrochemical characteristics was investigated. It was found that the copolymers, due to the presence of PMMA segments, possess viscoelastic behavior and less change in mechanical properties than a PEO homopolymer with 100 kDa molecular weight in the investigated temperature range.

In this study, pea protein isolate (PPI) and cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) were used to prepare oil-in-water emulsions, and the effects of pH and the oil content on the properties of the emulsions were investigated. The microstructural analysis revealed that PPI and CNC formed complexes by electrostatic attraction at pH 3.0 and 4.

Wound infections caused by Multidrug-resistant (MRSA) have been regarded as a challenging problem in clinic for the long time. In this study, based on the excellent antimicrobial effect of prodigiosin(PG) and the ability of hydrogel dressing in terms of tissue repair and regeneration, we prepared the PG hydrogel as a treatment for the wound infection induced by MRSA. Rheological tests indicated that PG hydrogel as a semi-solid gel had good mechanical properties.
