Female mice can discriminate the urinary odors of male mice due to their olfactory acuity. Parasitic infection or subclinical infection can decrease the odor attractiveness of male mice and finally lead to aversion or avoidance responses in odor selection for female mice. is a kind of tissue-parasitizing nematode that causes trichinellosis, a zoonotic parasitic disease that spreads throughout the world. However, the reproductive injury caused by infection was not fully revealed. In this study, we explored the effect of infection on the reproductive capacity in ICR/CD-1 male mice. We identified eight volatile compounds in urine by GC-MS analysis, and the results indicated that the contents of dimethyl sulfone, Z-7-tetradecen-1-ol, 6-Hydroxy-6-methyl-3-heptanone and (S)-2-sec-butyl-4,5-dihydrothiazole were significantly downregulated after parasitic infection, which might lead to the reduction of attractiveness of male mice urine to females. On the other hand, parasitic infection decreased sperm quality and downregulated the expression levels of , and , and these genes were strongly related to spermatogenesis. In summary, this study revealed that the reproductive injury caused by infection in ICR/CD-1 male mice could be associated with a decrease in urine pheromone content and sperm quality.

This study assessed the feasibility of miR17 ~ 92-based antiresorptive strategy by determining the effects of conditional transgenic (cTG) overexpression of miR17 ~ 92 in myeloid cells on bone and osteoclasts. Osteoclasts of male and female cTG mutant mice each showed 3- to fivefold overexpression of miR17 ~ 92 cluster genes compared to those of age- and sex-matched wildtype (WT) littermates. Male but not female cTG mutant mice had more trabecular and cortical bones as well as lower bone resorption reflected by reduction in osteoclast number and resorbing surface.

The negative effects of particulate matter up to 2.5 μm in diameter (PM) and their mediating mechanisms have been studied in various tissues. However, little is known about the mechanism and long-term tracking underlying the sex-dependent effects of PM on skeletal muscle system modulation.

Background: Biological sex influences Alzheimer's disease (AD) development, particularly concerning brain insulin resistance (bIR) and early energy metabolism defects. Biliverdin reductase-A (BVR-A) plays a crucial role in insulin signaling, and its downregulation leads to bIR. However, the sex-related differences in AD neuropathology and underlying mechanisms remain unclear.

Background: Compelling evidence has shown that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) contribute to Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathogenesis including β-amyloid plaque deposition (Aβ) and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles. In this study, we aimed to investigate the critical role of lncRNA Gm20063 in AD.
Method: Six-month-old male APP/PS1 transgenic mice and wild type (WT) C57BL/6 (B6) littermates were obtained from the Nanjing University Animal Model Research Center.

Background: Soluble Aβ oligomers (AβOs) induce synapse dysfunction, leading to cognitive impairment and memory deficits in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Our laboratory and several research groups characterized neurexin family members' physiological roles, pivotal synaptic adhesion molecules for development, plasticity, and maintenance. Beyond their normal functions, we found neurexins binding to AβOs causes AβO-induced neurexin dysregulation.
