A man in his 40s with a history of neurofibromatosis type 1 presented to the emergency department with worsening anterior elbow pain and swelling after falling from a chair 2 months prior. An X-ray showed soft tissue swelling without fracture and the patient was diagnosed with a rupture of the biceps muscle. MRI of the right elbow showed a brachioradialis tear with a large haematoma along the humerus. This was initially thought to be a haematoma; therefore, wound evacuation was done twice. When the injury failed to resolve, a tissue biopsy was performed. This revealed a grade 3 pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma. It is important to consider malignancy in the differential diagnosis with rapidly growing masses even if the initial presentation is suggestive of a benign condition. Neurofibromatosis type 1 is also associated with a higher risk of malignancy than the general population.

A 50-year old healthy male lost control over the pull string of a milling machine, which strangulated his right elbow and forearm with high velocity. Magnetic resonance imaging of the right upper extremity revealed a substantial tear in the muscle belly of the musculus brachioradialis with multiple small defects in the surrounding musculature of the forearm. The affected arm was immobilized for 1 week with an above the elbow cast.

Background: Optimal treatment of superior labral anterior-posterior (SLAP) tears is controversial, in part because the dynamic role of the long head of the biceps muscle (LHBM) in the glenohumeral joint is unclear. The aim of this study was to determine dynamic LHBM behavior during shoulder activity by studying (1) the electromyographic activity of the LHBM during shoulder motion, (2) the effect of elbow immobilization on this activity, and (3) the effect of a load applied to the distal humerus on this activity.
Hypothesis: The LHBM would not play a significant role in active glenohumeral range of motion.

Adaptive muscle activation strategies following a massive rotator cuff tear (MRCT) are inadequately understood, and the relationship among muscles during everyday activities has not been considered. Thirteen healthy subjects comprised the control group, and 11 subjects with a MRCT the patient group. Upper limb function was assessed using the Functional Impairment test-hand, neck, shoulder, and arm (FIT-HaNSA).

We present the outcome of the first clinical application of a new technique using an epineural flap to bridge a short nerve defect. A 28-year-old male had suffered a radial nerve laceration at the lower third of the arm, proximal to the brachioradialis branch, 3 weeks before surgery. During surgery, a neuroma-in-continuity was excised preserving the epineural sleeve.
