Vanadium oxides with multioxidation states and various crystalline structures offer unique electrical, optical, optoelectronic and magnetic properties, which could be manipulated for various applications. For the past 30 years, significant efforts have been made to study the fundamental science and explore the potential for vanadium oxide materials in ion batteries, water splitting, smart windows, supercapacitors, sensors, and so on. This review focuses on the most recent progress in synthesis methods and applications of some thermodynamically stable and metastable vanadium oxides, including but not limited to VO, VO, VO, VO, VO, VO, VO, and VO. We begin with a tutorial on the phase diagram of the V-O system. The second part is a detailed review covering the crystal structure, the synthesis protocols, and the applications of each vanadium oxide, especially in batteries, catalysts, smart windows, and supercapacitors. We conclude with a brief perspective on how material and device improvements can address current deficiencies. This comprehensive review could accelerate the development of novel vanadium oxide structures in related applications.

PTEN, a tumor suppressor phosphatase, regulates cellular functions by antagonizing the growth promoting PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway through the dephosphorylation of the second messenger PIP. Many preclinical cellular and animal studies have used PTEN inhibitors to highlight specific disease contexts where acute activation of PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway might offer therapeutic advantages. In the present study we have re-evaluated first-generation PTEN inhibitors, including established bisperoxo-vanadium complexes (bpVs).

Vanadium is a transition metal with important industrial, technological, biological, and biomedical applications widespread in the environment and in living beings. The different reactions that vanadium compounds (VCs) undergo in the presence of proteins, nucleic acids, lipids and metabolites under mild physiological conditions are reviewed. In the environment vanadium is present naturally or through anthropogenic sources, the latter having an environmental impact caused by the dispersion of VCs in the atmosphere and aquifers.

Low-cost and effective electrocatalysts are critical for energy storage and conversion. Herein, iron(III) and vanadium(III) acetylacetonates were first adsorbed and confined in porous zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), which further cross-linked together by the methanol-induced-assembly. Following the pyrolysis, the FeVO nanoparticles were efficiently encapsulated within three-dimensional (3D) N-doped interconnected porous carbon, termed FeVO/NIPC.

Fulfilment of energy demand by utilizing renewable energy sources that do not contribute to the production of greenhouse gases is a step forward in mitigating global warming. However, with the energy sources being intermittent in nature, renewable energy needs to be stored effectively on a grid scale. In this context, the development of redox-flow batteries has emerged as a promising technology where charging and discharging processes are accomplished by the redox shuttling of the electrolytes, namely anolytes and catholytes.
