Introduction: Appendicitis is a common cause for emergency operations in the western part of the world, mostly affecting children and young adults. Ultrasound in well-trained hands is an effective imaging tool in making this diagnosis; however, this does not come without its challenges and potential complications.

Case Report: This is a case of a 19-year-old male with one-day history of severe pain in the right iliac fossa; blood results showed raised inflammatory markers. Ultrasound revealed a large abnormal loop of bowel containing heterogeneously echogenic contents, and two large appendicoliths at the base and fundus, with the presence of free fluid in the right iliac fossa and oedema in the adjacent mesentery. Laparoscopic appendectomy confirmed the presence of severe appendicitis with generalised peritonitis and appendicolith. Histology revealed gangrenous appendicitis with perforation in two places.

Discussion: This case demonstrates that making a diagnosis of an inflamed appendix alone on ultrasound is not enough, and conducting a detailed assessment of the inflamed appendix and its surrounding anatomy is essential so that all the associated findings can be reported to aid in the patient management, reduce hospital stay and improve overall diagnosis and prognosis.

Based on the repertory grid technique, we developed Explore Your Meanings (EYME), a digital platform that helps patients explore identity values and internal conflicts using virtual reality (VR). EYME was part of a research project treating depression in young adults, including 10 weekly, 1-h sessions aimed at changing personal constructs-cognitive schemas that shape how individuals interpret reality. We present the case of Mary, a 21-year-old woman diagnosed with persistent major depressive disorder and social phobia.

Background: Groove pancreatitis (GP) is a form of pancreatitis that affects the pancreaticoduodenal groove area, which lies between the head of the pancreas, the second part of the duodenum and the distal bile duct, presenting as abdominal pain and gastric outlet obstruction. In this study, we present the clinical and radiological characteristics of individuals diagnosed with groove pancreatitis at our center and discuss the use of a conservative treatment approach in managing GP.

Methods: The data of patients with groove pancreatitis treated at our center between January 2012 and December 2021 was analyzed.

Kawasaki disease (KD) is a febrile vasculitis disorder, with coronary artery lesions (CALs) being the most severe complication. Early detection of CALs is challenging due to limitations in echocardiographic equipment (UCG). This study aimed to develop and validate an artificial intelligence algorithm to distinguish CALs in KD patients and support diagnostic decision-making at admission.

Background: Population-level mammography screening for early detection of breast cancer is a secondary prevention measure well-embedded in developed countries, and the implications for women's health are widely researched. From a public health perspective, efforts have focused on why mammography screening rates remain below the 70% screening rate required for effective population-level screening. From a sociological perspective, debates centre on whether 'informed choice' regarding screening exists for all women and the overemphasis on screening benefits, at the cost of not highlighting the potential harms.
