Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University, Beijing, Beijing, China.
Background: Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is one of the most common nervous system diseases. Hypertension and neuroinflammation are considered important risk factors for the development of CSVD and white matter (WM) lesions.
Method: We used the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) as a model of early-onset CSVD and administered epimedium flavonoids (EF) for three months.
Background: Human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-derived brain organoids patterned towards the cerebral cortex are valuable models of interactions occurring in vivo in cortical tissue. We and others have used these cortical organoids to model dominantly inherited FTD-tau. While these studies have provided essential insights, cortical organoid models have yet to reach their full potential.

Aga Khan University, Nairobi, Kenya.
Background: Population growth and an increase in the number of Africans who survive to old age puts them at a higher risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer's. Little research has been conducted on community knowledge and perceptions of dementia in rural settings in Kenya.
Method: Community health volunteers, healthcare workers (HCWs), chiefs and assistant chiefs (n = 35) participated in five focus group discussions, each comprising seven- eight people.

Objective: Elevated systolic blood pressure and increased pulse pressure are closely associated with renal damage; however, the exact mechanism remains unclear. Therefore, we investigated the effects of increased pulse pressure on tubulointerstitial fibrosis and renal damage in elderly rats with isolated systolic hypertension (ISH). Additionally, the role of renal tubular epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and its upstream signalling pathways were elucidated.

University of Maryland Baltimore, Baltimore, MD, USA.
Background: Low-resource residential long-term care (LTC) settings, including settings located in medically underserved and health professional shortage communities, have fewer environmental resources to support high-quality, robust data collection and use of measures to support person-centered dementia care (PCC). Further, such settings are more likely to serve older adults from populations that have experienced historic harms related to misuse of personal data, including low-income and minoritized populations. Design thinking engages community-members to understand a problem from the end-user's perspective (empathize and define), brainstorm new solutions (ideate), and develop proposed solutions (prototype and test).
