Extra-adrenal pheochromocytomas are rare neuroendocrine tumors originating outside the adrenal glands and can pose significant diagnostic challenges due to their variable presentations. This report highlights a case of an extra-adrenal pheochromocytoma masquerading as a pancreatic head malignancy. We underscore the importance of considering extra-adrenal pheochromocytoma in the differential diagnosis of pancreatic masses, particularly when biochemical or clinical features suggest catecholamine excess.

Melanoma-derived extracellular vesicles transfer proangiogenic factors.

Angiogenesis, the expansion of pre-existing vascular networks, is crucial for normal organ growth and tissue repair, but is also involved in various pathologies, including inflammation, ischemia, diabetes, and cancer. In solid tumors, angiogenesis supports growth, nutrient delivery, waste removal, and metastasis. Tumors can induce angiogenesis through proangiogenic factors including VEGF, FGF-2, PDGF, angiopoietins, HGF, TNF, IL-6, SCF, tryptase, and chymase.

Objectives: Melanoma is a highly aggressive and metastatic form of cancer, and the role of exosomal microRNAs (miRNAs) in its progression remains largely unexplored. This study aimed to investigate the effects of melanoma cell-derived exosomal miR-424-5p on angiogenesis and its underlying mechanisms.

Methods: Exosomes were isolated from melanoma cell lines A375 and A2058, and their effects on the proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were examined.

Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are a heterogeneous group of immature myeloid cells playing a critical role in immune suppression. In vitro-generated MDSCs are a convenient tool to study the properties of tumour-associated MDSCs. Here, we compared six protocols for in vitro generation of functional mouse MDSCs from bone marrow progenitors.

Chronic inflammation in the tumour microenvironment (TME) via Th2-polarisation promotes melanoma progression and metastasis, making it a target for immunotherapy. Interleukin (IL)-4 is considered essential for Th2-polarisation in the TME; however, its source remains unknown. Basophils have been postulated as one of its sources.
