The measurement of values of apparent equilibrium constants ' for enzyme-catalyzed reactions involve a substantial number of critical details, neglect of which could lead to systematic errors. Here, interferences, impurities in the substances used, and failure to achieve equilibrium are matters of substantial consequence. Careful reporting of results is of great importance if the results are to have archival value. Thus, attention must be paid to the identification of the substances, specification of the reaction(s), the conditions of reaction, the definition of the equilibrium constant(s) and standard states, the use of standard nomenclature, symbols, and units, and uncertainties. This document contains a general discussion of various aspects of these equilibrium measurements as well as STRENDA (andards for eporting zymology ta) recommendations regarding the measurements and the reporting of results.

Self-association of cyclodextrin inclusion complexes in a deep eutectic solvent enhances guest solubility.

Cyclodextrins are widely used pharmaceutical excipients known to increase the solubility of drug compounds through formation of inclusion complexes. A prominent limitation of common cyclodextrins is their own scarce solubility in water, which renders them unsuitable for many drug formulations. Cyclodextrin solubility can be enhanced in appropriate media such as Deep Eutectic Solvents (DESs).

One-Dimensional Excitonic Insulator of MTe (M = Mo, W) Atomic Wires.

Nano Lett

January 2025

Guangdong Basic Research Center of Excellence for Structure and Fundamental Interactions of Matter, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Quantum Engineering and Quantum Materials, School of Physics, South China Normal University, Guangzhou 510006, China.

Coulomb attraction with weak screening can trigger spontaneous exciton formation and condensation, resulting in a strongly correlated many-body ground state, namely, the excitonic insulator. One-dimensional (1D) materials natively have ineffective dielectric screening. For the first time, we demonstrate the excitonic instability of single atomic wires of transition metal telluride MTe (M = Mo, W), a family of 1D van der Waals (vdW) materials accessible in the laboratory.

Scaling of Rotational Constants.

Molecules

December 2024

Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY, Notkestr. 85, 22607 Hamburg, Germany.

This manuscript introduces the concept of scaling factors for rotational constants. These factors are designed to bring computed equilibrium rotational constants closer to experimentally fitted ground-state-averaged rotational constants. The parameterization of the scaling factors was performed for several levels of theory, namely DF-D/def2-VP (DF=B3LYP,PBE0, n=3(BJ),4, m=S,TZ), PBEh-3c, and r⁢2SCAN-3c.

Investigation of Host-Guest Interactions in 2-Ureido-4-ferrocenylpyrimidine Derivatives.

Int J Mol Sci

December 2024

Research Group of Organic Synthesis and Catalysis, University of Pannonia, Egyetem u. 10, 8200 Veszprém, Hungary.

In the present study, synthesis, conformational behavior, host-guest complex formation, and electrochemical properties of novel 6-substituted-2-ureido-4-ferrocenylpyrimidines were explored. A comprehensive NMR spectroscopic investigation was carried out to confirm the structure and conformational equilibrium of the ureidopyrimidines through studying the temperature- and concentration dependence of NMR spectra. Low-temperature NMR measurements were used to clarify structural changes inflicted by a 2,6-diaminopyridine guest.
