A case of early onset type of juvenile laryngeal papillomatosis (JLP) is reported, where pulmonary involvement developed in typical aspiration site evidenced by tuberculosis of the right lung, and which stimulated after years a squamous epithelial carcinoma. After comparison of this case with similar cases reported in the literature, the clinical feature of cancerization in JLP is discussed in the context of recent virological, immunohistochemical and pathohistological findings. The infectious nature of this disease and the reparative character of the pathologically accelerated proliferation of the papilloma epithelium are stressed, which latter is thus particularly susceptible to additional noxae: irradiation, cigarette smoke, infection and necrosis. These noxae are considered to be the ultimate cause of cancerization in JLP, especially long-standing necrosis. These noxae are considered to be the ultimate cause of cancerization in JLP, especially long-standing necrotisation of lung structures in pulmonary involvement. Surgical treatment of JLP, eradication being unconceivable, should therefore be rather conservative, and any therapeutic attendance should take utmost care to avoid intrapulmonary seeding.

Natural compounds constitute a major resource for the development of medicines for multiple diseases. While many natural compounds show strong biological activity, the mechanisms that confer clinical benefits are often elusive and have been attributed to multiple pathways. Periplogenin (PPG), a natural compound isolated from Cortex periplocae, exhibits strong anti-tumor activities in several human cancer cell lines.

In 2023, the EBMT Practice harmonization and Guidelines Committee partnered with the EBMT Infection Diseases Working Party (IDWP) to undertake the task of delivering best practice recommendations, aiming to harmonize by expert consensus, the already existing definitions and future epidemiological and clinical studies among centers of the EBMT network. To attain this objective, a group of experts in the field was convened. The workgroup identified and discussed some critical aspects in definitions of community-acquired respiratory viruses (CARV) and adenovirus (ADV) infections in recipient of hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT).

Background: Long-standing controversy has existed over whether sublobar resection is an adequate oncological procedure for clinical stage IA non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) ≤2 cm, despite the recent randomized trial reports of Japanese Clinical Oncology Group (JCOG) 0802 and Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB) 140503 demonstrating non-inferior outcomes with sublobar resection compared to lobectomy. As practice patterns shift, we sought to compare oncologic outcomes in patients with these early-stage tumors after wedge resection, segmentectomy, or lobectomy in a contemporary, real-world, cohort.
Methods: A retrospective review of a prospectively maintained database from a single institution was conducted from 2011 to 2020 to identify all patients with clinically staged IA1 or IA2 NSCLC (tumors ≤2 cm with no nodal involvement).
