Purpose: Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) is a viable option for localized osteoarthritis (OA) or avascular osteonecrosis with several advantages over total knee arthroplasty (TKA). UKA implants may feature a tibial component either all-polyethylene (AP) or metal-backed (MB). This study aims to retrospectively compare the clinical outcomes and survivorship of 74 UKAs over 16 years, focusing on comparing the results and survivorship of MB versus AP tibial tray.

Introduction: Moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects a large segment of the US population and is characterized by repetitive and reversible obstruction of the upper airway during sleep. Untreated OSA is associated with increased incidence of heart attack, stroke, and motor vehicle accidents due to sleepiness. Continuous positive airway pressure is often prescribed, but most patients with OSA are nonadherent.

The need for a permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation after surgical aortic valve implantation (SAVR) is a recognized postoperative complication, with potentially long-term reduced survival. From 1987 to 2017, 2500 consecutive patients underwent SAVR with a biological valve with or without concomitant procedures such as CABG or mitral valve repair. Mechanical valves or valves in another position were excluded.

Aims: Patients after heart transplantation (HTX) often experience post-transplant bradycardia, but little is known about the outcomes of early pacemaker dependency after HTX. We compared post-transplant mortality, graft failure, and the requirement for the permanent pacemaker implantation of patients with and without early pacemaker dependency after HTX.
Methods: We screened all adult patients for early pacemaker dependency after HTX (defined as immediately after surgery) who underwent HTX at Heidelberg Heart Center between 1989 and 2022.

Background Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is a rare genetic disorder associated with an elevated risk of life-threatening arrhythmias and progressive ventricular impairment. Risk stratification is essential to prevent major adverse cardiac events (MACE). Our study aimed to investigate the incremental value of strain measured by two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography in predicting MACE in ARVC patients compared to conventional echocardiographic parameters.
