Aqueous Zn-Iodine (I ) batteries are attractive for large-scale energy storage. However, drawbacks include, Zn dendrites, hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), corrosion and, cathode "shuttle" of polyiodines. Here we report a class of N-containing heterocyclic compounds as organic pH buffers to obviate these. We evidence that addition of pyridine /imidazole regulates electrolyte pH, and inhibits HER and anode corrosion. In addition, pyridine and imidazole preferentially absorb on Zn metal, regulating non-dendritic Zn plating /stripping, and achieving a high Coulombic efficiency of 99.6 % and long-term cycling stability of 3200 h at 2 mA cm , 2 mAh cm . It is also confirmed that pyridine inhibits polyiodines shuttling and boosts conversion kinetics for I /I . As a result, the Zn-I full battery exhibits long cycle stability of >25 000 cycles and high specific capacity of 105.5 mAh g at 10 A g . We conclude organic pH buffer engineering is practical for dendrite-free and shuttle-free Zn-I batteries.

The hydrolysis rates of many organic chemicals are accelerated under alkaline conditions by the presence of hydroxide (HO), which is typically assumed to be the predominant species contributing to base-catalyzed hydrolysis in both natural waters and laboratory buffers used in standard protocols. In this study, we demonstrated that weak bases (e.g.

The development and validation of an accurate, selective, and eco-friendly capillary zone electrophoretic detection (CZE) method has been presented for concurrent measurement of inorganic and organic anions including chloride, sulfate, formic acid, citric acid, acetic acid, phosphate, and glutamic acid in Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMOs) for the first time. An electrolyte composed of an aqueous solution of benzoic acid, 16.38 mM; l-histidine, 24.

Lanthanide(III) complexes with two-photon absorbing antennas are attractive for microscopy imaging of live cells because they can be excited in the NIR. We describe the synthesis and luminescence and imaging properties of two Eu complexes, and , with (-carbazolyl)-aryl-alkynyl-picolinamide and (-carbazolyl)-aryl-picolinamide antennas, respectively, conjugated to the TAT cell-penetrating peptides. Contrary to what was previously observed with related Eu complexes with carbazole-based antennas in a mixture of water and organic solvents, these two complexes show very low emission quantum yield (Φ < 0.

Proto-oncogene RET is overexpressed in many cancers, and its expression level is positively related to the size and malignancy of the tumors. Effective inhibition of its overexpression can be used to potentially treat cancers. A guanine-rich GC-boxes (I-V) sequence in its promoter region folds into noncanonical G-quadruplex (G4) DNA structures, negatively regulating its expression by interactions with small molecules.
