In the face of rising global demand and unsustainable production methods, cultivated crustacean meat (CCM) is proposed as an alternative means to produce delicious lobster, shrimp, and crab products. Cultivated meat requires starting stem cells that may vary in terms of potency and the propensity to proliferate or differentiate into myogenic (muscle-related) tissues. Recognizing that regenerating limbs are a non-lethal source of tissue and may harbor relevant stem cells, we selected those of the crayfish as our model.

Background: Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is one of the most common and fastest increasing forms of cancer worldwide with metastatic potential. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a group of RNA molecules with essential regulatory functions in both physiological and pathological processes.

Objectives: To investigate the function and mode of action of lncRNA plasmacytoma variant translocation 1 (PVT1) in cSCC.

Gene editing using clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) targeted to HIV proviral DNA has shown excision of HIV from infected cells. However, CRISPR-based HIV excision is vulnerable to viral escape. Targeting cellular co-factors provides an attractive yet risky alternative to render viral escape irrelevant.

November 2022

Unidad de Investigación Médica en Trombosis, Hemostasia y Aterogenesis, Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, Ciudad de México, Ciudad de México, México. Electronic address:

Background: Endothelial colony-forming cells (ECFCs) contribute to postnatal vasculogenesis. In venous thromboembolic disease (VTD), they are functionally abnormal and produce high concentrations of TNF-α.

Objective: To analyze the TNF-α signaling pathway and its relationship with the expression of cell-cycle regulators.
