Finding alternative energy sources and reducing the impact of waste on the environment are pressing global challenges. Crab shells possess the dual characteristics of a pollutant and a resource; therefore, transforming them into clean energy is an urgent issue that needs to be addressed for reducing environmental pollution. This study uses microwave torrefaction to treat crab shell waste efficiently and optimizes the torrefaction conditions through response surface methodology to rapid prepare derived fuel.

In this work, a novel method of antimony fire assay (Sb-FA) enrichment combined with laser ablation ICP-MS (LA-ICP-MS) for the determination of ultra-trace platinum group elements (PGEs) in geological samples was established. The purification and recycling technology of ultra-clean and high-purity fire assay collector SbO was proposed, in addition, high-purity quartz crucible was developed to replace the usual clay crucible, then the blank values of PGEs were as low as 0.0007-0.

In this study, the concentration of inorganic ions (SO, NH, NO and NO) and morphological characteristics of condensable particulate matter (CPM) were investigated to elucidate the formation mechanism of inorganic CPM from ultra-low emission coal-fired power plants. The concentration of inorganic ions increased with the increase of HO content and concentration of inorganic gaseous contaminants (SO, NO and NH), and decrease of condensation temperature, indicating the enhancement of heterogenous reaction in the saturated flue gas. Furthermore, NO and SO could undergo redox reactions, leading to an elevation in the concentration of SO and NO.

Ultra-Clean-Air (UCA) operating theatres aim to minimise surgical instrument contamination and wound infection through high flow rates of ultra-clean air, reducing the presence of Microbe Carrying Particles (MCPs). This study investigates the airflow patterns and ventilation characteristics of a UCA operating theatre (OT) under standard ventilation system operating conditions, considering both empty and partially occupied scenarios. Utilising a precise computational model, quasi-Direct Numerical Simulations (qDNS) were conducted to delineate flow velocity profiles, energy spectra, distributions of turbulent kinetic energy, energy dissipation rate, local Kolmogorov scales, and pressure-based coherent structures.

Activated coke is a type of commonly used adsorbent for benzene series VOCs such as toluene, but traditional microporous activated coke usually faces the challenge of poor regeneration performance. Herein, based on self-made activated cokes with typical pore configuration, we found that adsorption and regeneration of toluene can be simultaneously enhanced by constructing hierarchical pore in activated coke. Correlations of pore configuration with toluene adsorption capacity and regeneration efficiency reveal that micropore contributes for strong toluene adsorption; meso-macropore provides mass transfer channel for toluene desorption and regeneration process.
