Longstanding left-to-right shunting associated with congenital heart disease (CHD) can ultimately lead to pulmonary vascular remodeling, pulmonary arterial hypertension, and shunt reversal, the hallmark feature of Eisenmenger Syndrome (ES). ES is a multisystem disease, with hematologic, cardiovascular, renal, neurologic, immune, and other manifestations, each of which inform its management. Many of the most distinct and clinically important consequences relate to chronic hypoxemia.

Background: Mechanical stress and pathological signaling trigger the activation of fibroblasts to myofibroblasts, which impacts extracellular matrix composition, disrupts normal wound healing, and can generate deleterious fibrosis. Myocardial fibrosis independently promotes cardiac arrhythmias, sudden cardiac arrest, and contributes to the severity of heart failure. Fibrosis can also alter cell-to-cell communication and increase myocardial stiffness which eventually may lead to lusitropic and inotropic cardiac dysfunction.

Background: Short-term and long-term adverse events could occur after general anesthesia (GA) and the specific mechanism driving these effects has not yet been well-characterized. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the global effect of GA on DNA methylation in the cell-free DNA (cfDNA) of surgical lung-nodule patients.
Methods: This large retrospective cohort study enrolled 1,006 surgical lung nodule patients (529 pre-anesthesia, and 477 post-anesthesia).
