In the current study, cellulose was extracted from sugarcane bagasse and further converted into carboxy methyl cellulose. The morphological, chemical, and structural characterization of synthesizeed carboxy methyl cellulose was performed. Further, the biopolymer was fabricated with mycogenic selenium nanoparticles and used to develop the biopolymer films. The developed biopolymer films were examined for the fruit shelf life stability, antifungal activity, and biodegradation potential. The results revealed that grapes wrapped with biofilms showed enhanced shelf life of fruit at all storage time intervals. The study also witnesses the antifungal activity of biopolymer films with a remarkable inhibitory action on the spores of Fusarium oxysporum and Sclerospora graminicola phytopathogens. Lastly, the biopolymer films were significantly degradable in the soil within two weeks of incubation. Thus, the developed biopolymer films exhibit multifaceted properties that can be used as an alternative to synthetic plastics for fruit packaging and also helps in protecting against fungal contaminants during storage with naturally degradable potential.

Biochar is attracting a lot of attention as it is considered a novel, renewable, and bio-based filler that can be used specifically for developing and manufacturing "bioplastics" for growing plants such as mulch films and plant accessories. The manufacturing of "bioplastics" uses biopolymers but also various additives such as fillers, which are primarily used to replace some of the expensive biopolymers in a biocomposite composition and/or to improve the mechanical properties of the final products. This review aims to demonstrate the applications of biochar as a filler in bioplastics, specifically for horticultural uses; summarize the most recent findings; and discuss future research directions.

Nanocellulose-Based Films for Surface Protection of Wooden Artefacts.

This research investigated the selected properties of nanocellulose films intended to serve as protective patches on fissured surfaces of wooden artefacts. The effects of their plasticisation with glycerol and functionalisation with selected silanes ((3-Glycidyloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane, and Methyltrimethoxysilane) were also determined. The obtained pure cellulose nanopapers (CNPs) had a homogeneous and compact structure but were very brittle, stiff, and wavy.

Films and coatings based on biopolymers have been extensively studied in recent years since they have less impact on the environment, can be obtained from renewable sources, have good coating and film-forming capacity, are biodegradable and can have interesting nutritional properties. In the present study, sheep's cheese whey powder (SCWP) was used to produce edible cheese coatings. Six types of cheese samples were produced: without coating (CON); treated with natamycin (NAT); with SCWP coating without antimicrobials (WCO); with SCWP coating with a commercial bioprotective culture (WFQ); with SCWP coating with kombucha tea (WKO); and with SCWP coating with oregano essential oil (WEO).
