Objectives: Dental caries is the most common chronic disease in humans, caused by the acid produced by the microflora in the mouth that dissolves the enamel minerals. Bioactive glass (BAG) has been used in various clinical applications due to its unique bioactive properties, such as bone graft substitutes and dental restorative composites. In this study, we introduce a novel bioactive glass-ceramic (NBGC) prepared through a sol-gel process under a water-free condition.
Materials And Methods: The anti-demineralization and remineralization effects of NBGC were evaluated by comparing the measurements of bovine enamel surface morphology, surface roughness, surface micro-hardness, enamel elements, and mineral content before and after related treatments with a commercial BAG. The antibacterial effect was characterized by minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC).
Results: Results showed that NBGC had greater acid resistance and remineralization potential compared to commercial BAG. The fast formation of a hydroxy carbonate apatite (HCA) layer suggests efficient bioactivity.
Clinical Relevance: In addition to its antibacterial properties, NBGC shows promise as an ingredient in oral care products that can prevent demineralization and restore enamel.

Lactoferrin protein (LF) is a natural protein with certain emulsifying ability, but is sensitive to be affected by environmental factors and has poor oxidative stability to be used as emulsifier. In this study, the emulsifying ability of LF was significantly improved after conjugation with Rosa roxburghii Tratt fruit polysaccharides (RTFP), and the emulsion stability mechanism of LF-RTFP conjugates (L-R) were elucidated through the utilization of CLSM (confocal laser scanning microscopy), interfacial tension, apparent viscosity, and protein adsorption rate. The emulsion stabilized by L-R showed the smaller particle size (17.

Herein, a citrus processing wastewater-based biorefinery has been developed manufacturing essential oils, polyphenols and bacterial cellulose. Liquid-liquid extraction was evaluated for isolation of essential oils assessing different organic solvents, recovering 0.45 kg of essential oils per m of wastewater using n-heptane.

Denervated muscle atrophy, a common outcome of nerve injury, often results in irreversible fibrosis due to the limited effectiveness of current therapeutic interventions. While extracellular vesicles (EVs) offer promise for treating muscle atrophy, their therapeutic potential is hindered by challenges in delivery and bioactivity within the complex microenvironment of the injury site. To address this issue, an injectable hydrogel is developed that is responsive to both ultrasound and pH, with inherent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, designed to improve the targeted delivery of stem cell-derived EVs.

Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, is a significant health issue that increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases, stroke, and renal failure. This condition broadly encompasses both primary and secondary forms. Despite extensive research, the underlying mechanisms of systemic arterial hypertension-particularly primary hypertension, which has no identifiable cause and is affected by genetic and lifestyle agents-remain complex and not fully understood.

Throughout the life cycle of mushrooms, countless spores are released from the fruiting bodies. The spores have significant implications in the food and medicine industries due to pharmacological effects attributed to their bioactive ingredients. Moreover, high concentration of mushroom spores can induce extrinsic allergic reactions in mushroom cultivation workers.
