The COVID-19 pandemic has had a global impact, with >771 million confirmed cases and 6 million deaths reported by October 2023. Cancer patients, due to their immunosuppressed status, face an increased infection risk and higher COVID-19 complications. The present study aimed to assess clinical outcomes in COVID-19-infected cancer patients, focusing on mortality rates and other aspects, providing valuable insight for better protection and outcomes.

Rabies is a zoonotic viral disease transmitted mainly by bites of infected animals, especially dogs, which are responsible for 99% of human cases. Single-atom catalysts (SACs) have been increasingly acknowledged for their performance in sustainable Fenton-like catalysis. However, SACs face a trade-off between activity and stability in peroxymonosulfate (PMS)-based systems. Herein, we design a nano-island encapsulated single cobalt atom (Co-ZnO) catalyst to enhance the activity and stability of PMS activation for contaminant degradation via an "island-sea" synergistic effect.

Nasalance is a valuable clinical biomarker for hypernasality. It is computed as the ratio of acoustic energy emitted through the nose to the total energy emitted through the mouth and nose (eNasalance). A new approach is proposed to compute nasalance using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) trained with Mel-Frequency Cepstrum Coefficients (mfccNasalance).
