Oncology Department, Princess Noorah Oncology Center, King Abdul Aziz Medical City, Ministry of National Guard-Health Affairs, King Abdullah International Medical Research Centre, College of Medicine, King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Makkah-Jeddah Highway Road, Jeddah 22384, Saudi Arabia.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a global impact, with >771 million confirmed cases and 6 million deaths reported by October 2023. Cancer patients, due to their immunosuppressed status, face an increased infection risk and higher COVID-19 complications. The present study aimed to assess clinical outcomes in COVID-19-infected cancer patients, focusing on mortality rates and other aspects, providing valuable insight for better protection and outcomes.

Rabies is a zoonotic viral disease transmitted mainly by bites of infected animals, especially dogs, which are responsible for 99% of human cases. Despite being preventable, it remains a neglected disease in low-income countries, with approximately 60,000 deaths per year, mostly concentrated in Africa and Asia. The real worldwide burden of rabies is probably underestimated, as death-reporting systems are inadequate and active surveillance is limited.

Nano-island-encapsulated cobalt single-atom catalysts for breaking activity-stability trade-off in Fenton-like reactions.

Single-atom catalysts (SACs) have been increasingly acknowledged for their performance in sustainable Fenton-like catalysis. However, SACs face a trade-off between activity and stability in peroxymonosulfate (PMS)-based systems. Herein, we design a nano-island encapsulated single cobalt atom (Co-ZnO) catalyst to enhance the activity and stability of PMS activation for contaminant degradation via an "island-sea" synergistic effect.

Nasalance is a valuable clinical biomarker for hypernasality. It is computed as the ratio of acoustic energy emitted through the nose to the total energy emitted through the mouth and nose (eNasalance). A new approach is proposed to compute nasalance using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) trained with Mel-Frequency Cepstrum Coefficients (mfccNasalance).
