Composition analysis in wine is gaining increasing attention because it can provide information about the wine quality, source, and nutrition. In this work, liquid secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) was applied to 14 representative wines, including six wines manufactured by a manufacturer in Washington State, United States, four Cabernet Sauvignon wines, and four Chardonnay wines from other different manufacturers and locations. liquid SIMS has the unique advantage of simultaneously examining both organic and inorganic compositions from liquid samples. Principal component analysis (PCA) of SIMS spectra showed that red and white wines can be clearly differentiated according to their aromatic and oxygen-contained organic species. Furthermore, the identities of different wines, especially the same variety of wines, can be enforced with a combination of both organic and inorganic species. Meanwhile, liquid SIMS is sample-friendly, so liquid samples can be directly analyzed without any prior sample dilution or separation. Taken together, we demonstrate the great potential of liquid SIMS in applications related to the molecular investigation of various liquid samples in food science.

Two-dimensional (2D) PdSe atomic crystals hold great potential for optoelectronic applications due to their bipolar electrical characteristics, tunable bandgap, high electron mobility, and exceptional air stability. Nevertheless, the scalable synthesis of large-area, high-quality 2D PdSe crystals using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) remains a significant challenge. Here, we present a self-limiting liquid-phase edge-epitaxy (SLE) low-temperature growth method to achieve high-quality, centimeter-sized PdSe films with single-crystal domain areas exceeding 30 μm.

Aqueous two-phase extraction (ATPE) is an effective and scalable liquid-phase processing method for purifying single species of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) from multiple species mixtures. Recent metrological developments have led to advances in the speed of identifying solution parameters leading to more efficient ATPE separations with greater fidelities. In this feature article, we review these developments and discuss their vast potential to further advance SWCNT separations science towards the optimization of production scale processes and the full realization of SWCNT-enabled technologies.

A possible TOF-SIMS analysis of surface phase transitions has recently been proposed for limited cases such as polymers and ionic liquids. In the present study, we have extended this analysis to quench-condensed noble gas films. The newly developed cryogenic TOF-SIMS allowed both measurements of TOF-SIMS below 4 K, and low-energy ion scattering spectroscopy that is used to prepare a clean surface.

Background: Accumulation of malignant plasma cells in the bone marrow causes lytic bone lesions in 80% of multiple myeloma patients. Frequently fracturing, they are challenging to treat surgically. Myeloma cells surviving treatment in the presumably protective environment of bone lesions impede their healing by continued impact on bone turnover and can explain regular progression of patients without detectable minimal residual disease (MRD).

Introduction: Middle meningeal artery embolization (MMAe) is increasingly utilized as a primary or secondary treatment for chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH) and is usually performed with liquid embolics or particles. Outcomes after MMAe with coiling as a standalone treatment, or an adjunct to other agents, have not been reviewed.
Methods: A systematic review of the literature was performed to identify all original research that included patients who underwent standalone or adjunctive coiling for MMAe.
